Thanks to Eric at HDM holding my hand, I am becoming a novice gear head. I have the primary completely apart and I am replacing the bearing carrier, the pressure plate as well as a rebuilt starter and a clutch basket. Ring gear teeth were damaged and starter gear was completely stripped. I have the new starter back in, all the grounds are reconnected, and waiting for the shop to press on the new bearing carrier.
no installation goes perfectly however and when installing the rear screws for the battery tray they went in part way and just started spinning. No real torque was used, but now I can’t get them in or out. I can feel the rubber under the lip of the frame rotate. This is tough as there is no room between the rear fender and where the screw goes through to get a wrench in there To put a nut on the back side. Any thoughts out there about how to solve this problem?
here are some pics of the starter and ring gear teeth
