BLOWN TRANS ?????

SOP from what I can tell is just like you said... they send them to BDM for fixing. Not sure why... BDM must figure most of their field mechanics aren't tranny experts. IDK
:zz2cents: The way I understand it is that since this transmission has only been in service since the 2005 model year, and the average BDM rider only rides about 2500-3000 miles per year, there's not alot of opportunities to analyze a transmission failure event.

The typical dealer isn't set up for failure analysis, oil analysis or metalurgical testing. ALL of the failure clues are inside the transmission case. I would doubt that the factory would want to pay current shop labor rates for warranty work only to have a tech in the field miss something only to have another failure because the root cause of the failure was not determined.

If failures don't occur until after 5,000 or 10,000 miles the "average" rider may not experience a failure for 2-4 years.:)

Makes perfect sense...I am just to close to the problem to be logical...But, I'm willing to wait a few extra days to get it fixed right...I spoke to BDM about the process and they will also run the repaired tranny on a "tester" and adjust everything...So when it gets back to the shop it should just bolt up...

Hard to believe that the "Main Shaft" could be the weak link...

Damn I can't believe another one. I'd like to know how they confirmed your alignment.

I would be temped to buy a new trans and sell the repaired one if it happens to me. Guess I'll have to look into that.
It seems they are not sending back your original part based on the above post. That kind of stuff doesn't fly with me when I get back beat up crap

I guess you got to take pictures that your parts looked new and not used and abused

who makes a better transmission than Baker? Rev Tech, Jims, Harley, not sure...they say that Baker is the best in the industry...I guess we are screwed....I should get my bike back this week...with a "new" tranny...If its not right i'll ride like its rented and send it back...no worries.

Do you guys have pre-symptoms to this failure?

I am noticing my shift lever feel is starting to feel different it seems to me. It like it is stiffer and is really snapping when putting in gear or down shifting.

I tried adjusting the clutch this morning as described in separate thread, that didn't make any difference in shift feel or smoothness of transmission shifting.

I think something is making noise in it or in the primary. Else I have been reading too much and getting paranoid, but I put about 100 miles on it today listening carefully and trying to be objective. It seems something isn't quite right with it.

Thoughts?

Mine wasn't a main shaft....the countershaft had moved. It was instant, stuck in third gear. Everythings good now, shifts great.

Well, I ended up pulling the primary cover this w/e; fluid seemed reasonable (slight metal dust/wear) and I didn't see any evidence of broken parts. Chain had some excess free play so I adjusted that, cleaned the cover and filled with synthetic. I also changed the trans fluid to synthetic and observed it to have been low. Ran it another 200 miles and all sounds much better with no excess noise to report. Now I just hope I didn't damage the trans running low and wondering if the seal I've read about is a possibility. It was just serviced last month at 2500.

Geesh! I'm done with all this tranny stuff. :bang: I was out riding this weekend and my gear shift did that "flop" thing about 4 times. When I down shifted, it felt like I was to the bottom in first gear when it was actually in 4th or 5th or 3rd or whatever! It wouldn't pop back up to shift down to the next gear. It was 106 degrees and I'd been running about 85-90 mph for an hour when it happened. But later it did it again after I'd been off the bike about an hour. She's going in for her 10,000 mile service this week so maybe they can do something with it. GGGGGrrrrrrrrr this lil dawg is pissed!

No 4-5-6 gear

While riding to work 4 gear started to jump like you were pulling in clutch, made it home ,no other gears were doing this.Had adjusted clutch about 2,000 miles ago,15,200 on it now 2007 mastiff.Made small adjust on clutch cable when at home, rode a few miles 4 gear was still doing same thing, found that a small pull in on the clutch made problem go away. After a few more 4 gear surges, wasnt able to find 4-5-6 gear, limped home in 3 gear..checking this site before returning to dog dealer

Hey Fellows, I just got my 06 Mastiff back from the 2nd trans replacement with 5000 miles.... well actually.. they rebuilt this one and had no info on what was wrong or broke in it. By the way my warranty is gettin ready to run out in January. I'm not that big a fan of the baker anymore. Its left me stranded 3 times and maybe gun shy for life. so add me to the list again

Don't discount baker. They make a much better part than the trans in the BDM. See, bdm is stupid, and tells a guy like Bert baker how they think he should make a trans just for them. He does and it fucks up. Understand you don't have a baker trans, you have a BDM trans manufactured by Baker to the BDM specs. The last part entales the problem.

I spoke with a Baker tech at MB and he assured me that the BDM setup is all Baker and if BDM gives us shit about repairs to call him and HE will make it right. Got his card and number if this ever is the case, but BDM is seems to be standing behind their product.

Then, I'm wondering how a mainshaft can just snap in half while I'm going down the freeway.

Nobody made mine right.

Stroker's raped me for the labor... I should have done it myself..... I paid for the FUCKING broken part.

At the end of the day.... LOTS of folks have had issues. I doubt at this point anyone can deny that.

Hell, even now the fucking thing jumps out of gear all the time.

I want to drink the cool-aid like everybody else here but, what's right is right.

I just really want to have an answer on how a fucking mainshaft on the tranny can just snap in half unless it's an inferior part???????????

hey, if BDM wants me to shut up then maybe they'll send the the 1000.00 I paid for the service.

And I'm sorry man but I think you got fed a line. Want to buy some ocean front property in Michigan?

A michigan dog, tried to buy parts directly from Baker for his tranny. A few simple parts... Baker said they don't carry them nor can they sell him any BDM parts.

Sure the parts are "all baker" cause they are having them made for BDM. But they are not the same parts that are in a standard 6 speed "BAKER" trans.

Many many times, do you call a company and get 2 different answers.
