A 30,000 American made bike and I can't get parts for it.
Want to ride it not look at it.
Pissed off
 I ride mine a lot, find parts, and work on it as needed like any bike bike I own. It's your choice to be pissed and only look at it. Maybe this bike isn't for you.

The bike was for me until you can't even get a tire for it.
Had 3 big dogs and I know more about them than most people.
What are you going to do when your handle bar control boards go?
Side cover primary is Baker only, it is 2" longer then a Harley set up.
Most things can be fixed, but there are few parts that are Big Dog prioritized like the grips and levers.

So without factory parts we are screwed.
I understand your frustration, but we may not be screwed just yet. Someone may pick up the ball

Stop whining and deal with it or trade it in for a Honda. :flag:

Brother you need to sell your bigdog and get something else. Your going to wind up making yourself sick worrying about your dog and not being able to get parts. Its not healthy. Buy something else....Harley, Honda, Segway or anything you can enjoy. Take the loss and get rid of your bigdog. When I get to the point your at.....I'm selling

I agree with Alan also.

I must be of a different mindset. I have been able to maintain my wife's 1968 BSA custom and BSA no longer exists. Trust me, it was hard to find or make parts that I broke on the BSA but I walked away and came back with a fresh attitude (Can do type). So, being pissed and frustrated is not a good place for anyone even though I don't understand your situation. I believe anything can be done. If I were to give up easily, I would have sold my 1999 Dodge 4X4 Cumins, my 1991 boat, etc. I guess I am not easily discouraged.:D

Huw

PS Do you know how difficult it is to get parts for a Nuclear Plant with 1960's equipment that can't be upgraded?

For F**k Sake... I have my Dog in Spain.... no parts whatsoever there and I am not selling it :nono: I am relying on this Forum and its members to keep it on the road :2thumbs:

Isn't part of owning a custom/chopper having to wrench on it yourself? Owning a HD, Honda, etc. would be f***g boring! :D

Gonna have to peel me off my BD. Wouldn't be afraid of buying a used one in the future either.

Too bad BD doesn't have the history that Indian has...where a Company such as Polaris could buy the name and continue in some sort of production.

Haven't posted in a while life in general keeps me busy n one of my grandson lives with us so always something happening. I will most likely be letting my K9 go sometime but for different reasons, just getting 2 old to really enjoy it. Wife has her sporty but rides my VRod more n we want to start actually going places so I'll be doing the couch on 2 wheels n yes most likely Gold wing, please don't hate. Haven't ever owed anything on my k9 and love it not gonna bash bdm things happen businesses fail. Oh well may sell it one day or not but either way my experience has been a good one so I'll be hanging around the site till it dies or I do. Be safe n keep riding.

Wrenching is not the problem with me I work on Big Dogs and American Iron horse and Harley.
At least the parts are compatible on these last two mentioned.
What are you all going to do with the 2005 and up when your ECU shits the bed and you can not start it or even use the lights. Try to order a new ECU from Big Dog. The controls send a ground signal to the ECU and it is completely different from the other bikes with 12 volt controls.

Good luck when that happens.
Yeah I am selling my bike and will buy another brand.
Problem is no body wants it and it is the nicest looking bike around.
I always hated Big Dogs electrical systems all 3 of my Big Dogs sucked in that area.
Nice bikes with a lot of electrical problems.
Some problems I found and called Big Dog with a solution, they thanked me but a lot that did. They always tried to be different even there PST connecters suck they are so small they can burn up, I lost ground on the igniton because of these shitty connecters.
The fix is just run a ground wire from the fender mounted ignition to a ground on the frame. The 03 big dog chopper and mastif have fiberglass rear fenders so they won't ground the igniton.

The tach board ring that holds in the round tach board can move and ground out the tach.
It has happened to a lot of bikes. I can go on with the problems but will not matter once it is gone nice bikes had 3 but enough is enough.
I will keep riding it and try to keep it going until I eventully get a buyer.

As far as the power on the EPA 117 cuin it is not near my last 3 107 cuin.
We bought a big motor only to get ripped off with an under powered EPA motor.
Sure we can fix that with more money, so why buy a big motor another big Big Dog dissapointment.
Even though I did most of the work to fix that problem.

Its been a good time and a fun ride the last ten years with BDM but everything must end.

Its Harly time
HD handlebars and controls.

Thunder heart ecu

Dakota digital speedo

All of those companies are in bidness

It is what it is either you'll keep your bike or you'll get rid of it and move on. There's not much we can do about it but deal with it. Im keeping mine.:2thumbs:

Big dog out of business

Big dog being out of business is disappointing. But I am hoping for good news soon. I went to a bd dealer and was informed that big dog being shut down is a good thing cause there may be a positive outcome in the near future.

I'm confused with this Pit57 posting...not seeing his original post:confused:
But anyhow, yes the EHC can be replaced using the thunderheart EHC micro harness controller that was used in the American I-H, just make sure you purchase the push button converter as well. It converts the push button signal into a standard latching signal.
