This is GREAT! Looks like the K9 is gonna have a S&S 124 and a Jims 6 speed right side drive.
It's sharp, but like you mention it has its faults and limited replacement parts. With the standard Harley primary you get limitless options for clutchs and transmissions. It's great that KMW is bringing back Bigdog MC to some degree. I was sorry to see that the primary to be used is one that looks like a Harley and in my opinion makes the new K9 look old. I for one was attracted to the unique Baker Drivetrain primary style design. Although the Baker Drivetrain has its faults, I liked the signature style design over the old look HD. It would be great to see a non-Harley contemporary style primary on the on the NEW Bigdog motorcycles.
I would think the brand building is pretty stable at this point. The inner/outer primary cover style can be updated without having to make all the inner drivetrain components proprietary. I would think only the inner/outer covers and o-ring would be the proprietary items and you could buy o-ring material and make you own if needed. I just feel the old coffin hex design style is too Harleyesc and more of a me too look. It's sharp, but like you mention it has its faults and limited replacement parts. But I agree the baker look was nice and set BD apart from the other who were running Harley stuff. Ironhorse, BBC etc. I don't think however that propertiary anything is the way to build a brand, think back to the way Big Dog was pre 2004. When you limit the parts and options you limit your perspective buyers.

Brand is stable? Have you looked at prices of Used Big Dogs recently? $10k for their premiere softail from 2007 doesn't scream they have a stable brand to me.I would think the brand building is pretty stable at this point. Being a little proprietary isn't such a bad thing especially when there is a plan "B" for retrofitting back to a common part.
I agree and I miss the BD hand controls. Oh and the Baker tranny is so much better than Jims but it works, just noisyIt's great that KMW is bringing back Bigdog MC to some degree. The big dog hand controls are beautiful no argument there. I think the big dogs are perfect, but obviously not everyone does considering where it ended up.I agree and I miss the BD hand controls. Oh and the Baker tranny is so much better than Jims but it works, just noisy
