Which do I want ESC or RIP?

Trying to find the problem with my K9 today when I turned the key on and the ECH starter smoking, bad heavy white smoke. Time to fix it for good (I hope).

What experience has anyone had with either DOC's ESC or KMW's RIP kits? Witch is easiest to install? Pluses or minuses of each kit?
I would like to get one ordered soon, having a couple bad weather weeks now to work on it.

I have looked into both. Docs esc is a little bit more but all the functions stay the same as the rip doesnt. After rip...your highbeam button doesnt work..low beam switches through both. Rip comes with a mounting plate where as docs mounts in same spot as the stock unit. Alsonwith doc you have the option of a no fault light to let you know if your charging system is working properly. I would say for the money docs is probably better. I cant afford either though..:oldlaugh:

The new harness KMW is using retains the exact same functions as the OEM excluding the air ride setup of course.
The RIPS mounting plate mounts in the stock EHC location.

I'm running the first ESC in my 05 Ridgeback from DOC and have been since January 2014. No issues to date and I have over 5500 miles and 81.4 hours on the unit. It's an easy install (Plug - N- Play) all functions work as if OEM.

I believe the RIP is similar, don't know about the OEM functions as mentioned above in thread #2.

Just FYI.....I installed the RIP kit and not an issue since the install about 3-400 miles ago, easy install truly plug and play However......my seat had to be modified to fit over the RIP, I have a 2008 RB and had to cut out the foam where the RIP sits. The RIP kit sits up about 1 - 1 1/2 inches higher than the frame. Easy fix to modify the seat...just giving you a heads up if the 2006 RB is the same.

Does it sit higher because of the mounting plate?

No issues like this on the 2005 Ridgeback. Everything's well below the seat line. No mounting plate with the ESC, it mounts exactly as the EHC did...

If you have to modify your seat then you did not install it correctly.
I've installed a number of the R.I.P.s on several models and I never had to modify a seat...LOL

Another thing i liked on the esc if you look it up, you can see that the shrink tubing goes over the end of the jst connector so chances of water getting in are pretty limited

My feelings are exactly opposite.
Its just like the whole thing that was going around about shrink tubing all your JST connectors.
The JST is already water resistant. If you simply add a dab of Dielectric grease inside the connector before you push them together it then becomes waterproof. If anything ever happens to that piece of shrink tube you then have a water retainer not a water proofer.

Yeah that's mine, I'm running a 1) 40 amp three phase charging system 2) ESC power 3) Battery tender line 4) Main power cable
that's all I'm running and have had no issues with this bike...

Well I am waiting for my RIP so when it comes in I will let you know how it works. I had a LONG conversation with Matt at KMW and learned more than I ever wanted to know about the history of BD's electrical systems. According to Matt the new harness keeps ALL functions as is (except the air ride) and has self canceling turn signals which some folks lost with the WP or PDM kits. Yes, KMW did upgrade their kit right about the time for Sturgis.

I just installed the ESC in my bike and couldn't be happier! Super easy install and super clean!:old2: I also got the electrical systems monitor added to it so my oil light doubles as a warning if the voltage drops too low or is too high, I can't say anything about the RIP kit, don't know anything about it, but I would definitely recommend the ESC from DOC, all my functions are working perfectly, the bike starts flawlessly,:whoop: and the peace of mind knowing your charging system is working properly is priceless! :old2:
