Gotta jump on BBChop's bandwagon. Just saw this post, went out to the garage, dug through the freakin tool box for 5 minutes before gettin pissed off and just dumping it on the floor, found a 7/16 deepwell, popped off the VR and of course, Im F'd, an 05. Ya know, I can handle the vibrating, falling off, shits gonna happen with a custom, but DEFECTIVE PARTS I CAN'T TOLERATE. :damnit:
After reading Alicat's thing about not getting his VR checked.....I went out to the garage grabbed a 7/16 socket and popped mine off....mine is good....has the 06 on the third line:up: FT said they checked mine and they did! they were right...although I haven't received anything in the mail yet.....maybe because I already have the good VR in it...

VAC, does the fuse kit replace the circuit breaker? also, did the dealer have any reserves of letting you take the fuse kit home and installing yourself?

That's one big honkin' fuse - what's the amperage rating on it, Vac?
Looks like a standard ATC fuse to me.

I'm also curious.. is it said to replace the circuit breaker? Cause that's crazy. Now I would have to carry spare fuses too!!!

Yup - just a particularly high-amp one.

That's what the letter said - I bet they determined they needed a faster acting device in order to minimize the damage with that many amps, so they are replacing the CB with a fuse.

It would be interesting to see some of the statistics, like how many have actually fried. I have only heard of a couple mentioned on the forum, but it's pretty traumatic when it happens.

The fuse is a 40 amp and about the size of a 50 cent pc. The install was easy would have taken about 10-15 minutes except the new mounting stud base for the wiring has a different hole spacing as compared to the breaker. They give you one new bolt and the mounting stud base has a piece of double sided tape for where the other bolt should line up.(The breaker bolt spacing is about 3/16" wider than the new mounting stud". Any way tape did not stick so I milled out both sides of the new base a bit and used the old bolts (2) and got everything to line up this added about 10 minutes to the deal.

When you're done you have removed the circuit breaker completly and the red wire from the circuit breaker to the positive terminal

You attach the voltage reg. wire and one end of the fuse holder to the new base stud, the other end of the fuse holder goes to the positive terminal on the battery:up:

Thanks V.

Oh, by the way - if the fuse blows because the VR has fried, you probably won't be just replacing the fuse and riding on.

Yea its just to keep everything else safe supposedly. If it blows I don't think i'll just throw another in and try to fire up.

See then its a F'ed system anyway...

Big question... if we have a good non recalled VR and the old CB should we install the fuse anyway???

I would think so, Gas - the CB is just cheap insurance that you won't torch your whole bike if the VR does short out. You don't want to do this Phoenix thing more than once, do ya?

OOPS - EDIT - I misunderstood - if it is NOT a recalled VR, you probably don't need the fuse.
