yes ive ran the karata for almost 2 years...moe my front pulley does not have a lip smooth edge with a slight taper downward on the edge. back has lip and belt does not try to climb up lip at all just wants to run on inside edge about a cc width out. and if i spin the wheel backwards the belt runs in the center of the rear pulley and moves over to the outside edge on the front pulley...i have bolted and torqed motor bolts down and torqued the tranny and motor to karata and used a feeler guage under the 6 tranny bolts and and cant get a 4ths guage under any of the bolt holes on tranny...

well...pulled the NEW belt and adjusted nothing but loosen wheel up...installed the old belt that came off the bike and adjusted rear wheel...that old belt rides right in the center of the center of both front and back pulleys...you can roll tire forwards and backwards and the old belt tracks right in the center....pulled the old belt off and installed the new one backwards and it runs to the left of the front pulley about 1/16 away from tranny box.....roll the wheel backwards and it rolls to the outside of front pulley....wtf.

the new belt is a BDL PC 133 118 gates USA 110A......what does the 110A stand for is it possible this is a belt for leftside drive...read in the search area where jim at karata said belts are made to track right, left or netrual...his are made to track left.

It's hard to get my head around a belt that is machined from one end to the other is that groove from one end to the other is even, yes?
How can a belt climb right or left if the belt has a tooth constant from end to end. One side should taper to one side, no?
Gates sells a laser alignment tool for belt pulley centering. How could X to Y be in a straight plain and someone makes a belt, or pulley to ride to either side?
I understand the old belt tracks in the center and the new one does not. So are we saying the belt wants to ride out of the groove because the tooth to belt do not fit, i.e., fill the pulley with the proper belt cut so it does ride in the center?
Because it sure looks like you have X [Engine/trans] to rear [tire's] belt pulley is Y = Z rides in the center are the parts in line... In theory. So, show me a Gates net page saying they make right and left leaning belts or pulleys.

This means it has to move at a certain direction so the strands stay taught in this direction, not the opposite [flip the belt] and she unravels inside the belt's top/smooth-side. Cleaver.
So who gives a shit? Let it walk up the guards. It's not that powerful of a pull. If anything, you are making the belt stronger [if on the correct] pull. So the point is > Directional course, and where the guards are on which side?

ok...drove to wichita and picked up new belt from will and doug at C A Jones...just installed and tracking is right down center of both hubs...

Glad you got that taken care of, I just had a similar tracking problem with my new belt except that my belt went in and then out. A obvious defective belt in my case, yours was a little tougher to figure out.
This the brand new belt that I had just installed during my Baker Open Primary upgrade, I had to also get another new belt.

yea...had i not taken motor and tranny out of the frame it would have been pretty obvious...but i thought it was something i had done.

The best part about this is they won't give vendors, at least my current supplier won't even though I showed them the belt was defective and sent it back to them to see for themselves, their money back on these defective belts. You sell a belt, the customer says its defective, you send the customer a new belt at your expense. It truly sucks and I'm starting to think seriously about not selling belts.
Any other vendors have this problem.
Although I must add that the manufacturers I am having issues with are Gates and Panther(subsidiary of Gates). The Falcon belts I have been selling have had 0 issues so far so I may just go to selling Falcon and nothing else.
