Your correct Imfamous on the mirrors! Been there done that! One other thing. If your running at night. Make sure you have your next fuel stop in a town that is open! Had this happen to me running through Nebraska. Refueled at 45 miles because the next big town was 140 miles the way we went. Had I not made that 1.3 gal. Fuel up my ass would have been pushing my dog! Lot of small towns roll up the side walks at sun down!
Yep even if it's not at night ..I've been through small towns gas is closed early or on Sunday's or maybe just closed all together. If you not sure there is a large town within 100miles always stop.

Hell I think I've filled up after only 30 miles down near Big Bend.

How long you been riding. Just curious as some of my answers, well, most were just a little on the smartass side. If I owe you an apology consider this it.
Lol!! Na I thought your answers were good and comical I didn't take it the wrong way

I've been riding since I was about 10-12 years old.

When I lived in Houston about 20 years ago all I owned for 5 years was a motorcycle. (Got stolen after 5 years)

So for 30+ years I guess. Off and on (times when I didn't have a bike)

Guess I just never had the inclination to go any farther if that makes sense.

I just do regular maintenance and pack for 3 days, can always do laundry. I do have road side assistance if there's a problem. I've always made it home, one way or another. If you worry about breaking down before you even leave....its not worth going. Relax and enjoy yourself, even on the one trip I had to trailer mine home, I had a good time.

I read ya. I'm wound so tight I'll probably have to put more effort in taking a breath than preping my bike. Lol!

Ride down to see your old man! You got a place to crash and it's a nice ride. Take 2 days to get there.

You really only need an idea of a destination the rest will work it self out and see how many different roads you can take!

Think I'm gonna go north by northwest, may be to late in the year, but we'll see, ride til I can't take it anymore or until I hit the ocean. Lost a dear family member is SoCal and I haven't been able to go back since. Might be a good time to stick my toes in the water and say goodbye.

Go for it. That would be a fantastic trip, as long as your back for BB&BBQ

Thanks for the input.

I got a ton of stuff rattling around in my head, I need to jump on my bike and let the wind blow it out.

I've never ridden more than a hundred miles or so in one direction, just tring to get an educated idea of how to go about it.
When I started more distance riding, I didn't appreciate planning breaks early and often (say every 70 or so miles), I would push it tank to tank and make it a pit stop. By mid day I started getting tired/sore.

Breaks earlier and often let me go further in the day, more comfortably, and I had nearby target to mentally focus on. I also prefer a cheap hotel to a campsite. Better sleep for me helps the next day. I'm also a big guy not in the best of shape so ymmv.

Inevitably you'll take stuff you don't need and forget something you'll want. You'll find out what works for you over time. And +1 on the zip ties and duct tape. Amazing stuff those two are.

Not sure if I'll be back in time for bb&bbq.

Hope I can make it, but I need this trip.
Do the trip, Big Daddy! Get ya some "alone " time to sort things out., and come to terms with the situations going on around you. Just something about open air, cool breezes, and sunshine make life a little bit easier. Do the ride, and above all, STAY SAFE, there'll be other get -togethers you can make it to!

Your right chubs I need to point my face in the wind.

I'm gonna ride until I get tired then I'm gonna rest until I'm done resting and I'm gonna ride straight til I feel like turning around. Might be a day might be a month. I won't know until I do.

IMHO, the best trips I've ever taken were spur of the moment decisions. Back up the backpack with some hand tools, portable charger (cause ya never know), a few rags, a wet suite, a small safety kit (well I always carry one), couple bottles of water, a candy bar and gooooooo.. Drag a few friends with ya.. Priceless.

How far I go, who cares . Where I go, who cares. When I get back, well I gotta pay the bills (so sometime within the next month). How fast do I ride, let's just say I stretched the dog out yesterday at about 108 :whoop:but usually within 5 miles per hour of the posted speed limit, ya know just like Ker.. Good luck to bro.. and

Safe trails.. :chopper:
