Last Friday was my service date at the dealer to get my new voltage regulator plus a replacement starter (mine is leaking) and now my third rear tire with new bearings. But it was a rainy week so I delayed the service.
I'm on my 8th starter and the last one is the one that lasted the longest but ended up breaking in half.

This one has been doing good but it's leaking so my service warranty girl got me a new one. The replacement starters are good for 90 days so I called on day 89 and was able to get a new one.
The voltage regulator is a recall item so will have that replaced although mine is fine since I have 42,000 miles on it. I would guess that if its going to fail it would have done so by now!
My tire is shot, I replaced that last one at 19,000 miles after my cross country trip. This one has even more miles on it. Last time I emailed Avon with a testimonial and they sent me a t-shirt and a Hawaiian shirt which was kinda cool. I have over 23,000 mile on this tire. It's flat spotted but still in good shape.

I just called the dealer to ensure they had bearings in stock as I will have them replaced also. They are supposed to be done every 10,000 miles so I'm over due for them.

Here is a pic of my last tire;

My bike is in pretty good shape for an old bike with a lot of miles on it. After re-wiring it with all the die-electic grease, shrink wrapping the connectors and filling the ends with silicone the electric system is doing great.

I replaced all the plugs on the brake rotors recently so the brakes are good. Now new tires and I'm ready to head cross country again!

Now if only my tank was done. My brother is going to open it up for me to give me some more shape to it and another gallon of gas. It's a nightmare out here in the West wondering if I'm going to run out of gas between gas stations. The adventure of the West! :flag:

Going to be a cold ride tomorrow. The season is coming to an end but this week is suppose to be rain free so I need to get this service done. Should be a good trip.

Later,
Ray

Hell, if Knotso wouldn't have taken me on some bumpy ass road my starter may never have broken in half. I hit so many pot holes on the road we were on!

Wow Ray, you are definetly getting some good miles out of your bike. On the tires, how do you judge when its time to replace them? Do they have wear hole in them that appear when its time or what? I am just over 8,000 miles on my bike, but that has all been put on there in a little over 4 months. Tires still look good...I think. lol Do the wheel bearings have to be pressed in, or is it something that is fairly easy to do yourself?

Avon sent me a measuring devise to measure the 3/32". But they also have the wear indicators in the thread. If you look at the cutouts in your tread you will see some little ribs/ribbons of rubber. This is the wear indicators.
I got 19,000 on my first tire and now have about 23,000 on my current tire. Mileage is all guessing as I'm on my 8th speedo and over time I accumulated quite a few more miles while waiting on the speedo's. One time it would only be a few days and another time it would be a month or more to get my new speedo and of course I was putting on 100 miles a day commuting while living in Kalifornia!

Avon has done me good though with the t-shirts and Hawaiian shirt.

I got the first RSD Big Dog to come into Southern Kalifornia. I traded my 03 Mastiff for it. My Chopper is #29.
Been a good bike even with the problems I have had with it but I have also rode this thing across country and had a blast.
There is nothing new that entises me to trade my bike in. The chopper is so my desire for what a custom bike should be. If anything the only changes I will be doing to it this winter is chroming other than cutting up the tank and making it bigger.
This bike is all I want in a bike and it fits me well.

Well, in all fairness to our buddy KnotSo, as I recall, he did haul your broken down butt home in his big trailer. :D

Nice to have a riding buddy that you can count on, thick or thin.

I heard those skinny tires wear out faster - us fat tire riders should get even MORE miles! :D

(A little inside joke amongst the NW riders.) :whoop:

Seriously, wish I was home, to ride up to Burlington with you - be safe!
