Update: Once the bike would start reliably I worked on the carb. It actually still had the original jets that came with the Shorty E. Changed up to intermediate 36 and main jet 78. Cleaned everything out and readjusted idle, accelerator pump but still popping. Caps on the 3 vent fittings on top of the carb were cracked and dry rotted. Replaced and readjusted everything. Good. Finally took it out for shakedown run today and everything was good. Stupid quick. Went and filled up with gas and rode back but suddenly bike ran explosively backfiring. Pulled over and all 3 caps had blown off the carb. Got some twigs, jammed them in the barbed fittings holes, and rode home perfect. Working on a permanent block off now. Otherwise the dog is insane, loud as hell, and scary. Just as it should be. The only thing I might need is pine tar like the baseball players use to make sure I don't fly off when nailing it. Thanks all for your help and life is good!!!
