Update: Once the bike would start reliably I worked on the carb. It actually still had the original jets that came with the Shorty E. Changed up to intermediate 36 and main jet 78. Cleaned everything out and readjusted idle, accelerator pump but still popping. Caps on the 3 vent fittings on top of the carb were cracked and dry rotted. Replaced and readjusted everything. Good. Finally took it out for shakedown run today and everything was good. Stupid quick. Went and filled up with gas and rode back but suddenly bike ran explosively backfiring. Pulled over and all 3 caps had blown off the carb. Got some twigs, jammed them in the barbed fittings holes, and rode home perfect. Working on a permanent block off now. Otherwise the dog is insane, loud as hell, and scary. Just as it should be. The only thing I might need is pine tar like the baseball players use to make sure I don't fly off when nailing it. Thanks all for your help and life is good!!!

WOW, I never heard of the caps blowing off, must a been a heck of a sneeze. That's funny with the twigs, I used pencils when I used to tune cars yrs ago.:oldlaugh:

FREEDOM!!!
You heading to bikeweek?
That's March 10 - 19. I've never been to Daytona Bike week and I can't make it this year. I have visitors from Brazil 3/11 - 3/13 and flying to Columbus Ohio on business 3/14 - 3/17. Not in the cards this year. Next year is mandatory. I've been to Sturgis twice and Laconia probably 5 times but never Daytona. Have fun if your going!!!

FREEDOM!!!
Just a quick update for all. FINALLY took my second test run yesterday after re-jetting the carb and I am close. Starts easy, pulls very hard, and has that very pronounced radical cam sound. Slow rolled the throttle and short shifted gears 1 - 4 when I hit the yellow lights. At the top of 4 I hit redline whacked 5 and the tire lit up and the bike started stepping out to the side. Scared the living bejesus out of me. Now I know to be very careful because this thing is a torque monster. Now I can make an appointment to have it dyno fine tuned and mechanically it's done. Only other problem was the left mirror vibrated itself into a useless floppy mess and the spiked cam cover flew off somewhere into the sugar cane fields. Need more red loctite!

My WP lasted 200 miles.... Below are a few ways to old School your ride. It will cost ya around $600 and you can ride without worries... The best way is to find a chopper shop close by and have them do it if you are not good with wiring... Buy the bars you want on Ebay and the controls. This will save ya some $$

What's the reason why you can't use your old bars and switches on your control then can you just use a fuse box to run all your wires to

Your old bars are too large for the Harley controls which you will need because the old controls are thin negative wires and you need 12v. You could use your old bars by putting a 1" sleeve in the end to fit the HD controls. And don't use a fuse box. Use Two 15 amp breakers and one 30 amp breaker.
