My spare toy

Yeah, I know it’s probably something simple I have just overlooked 100 times. I’ll find it sooner or later. But if the worst issue I ever have with this thing is no speedometer. I’m probably doing good other than I’d like to know how far I went on a tank of fuel before I say oops that was too far.
So if I put a digital speedometer on replace the sensor and my Ech looks like it’s a good one is the other obvious thing for my speedometer aground or a power wire? It does light up, but if I understand it, right, that power comes from elsewhere.

If you know how to check ohms on your meter. That's what I would do first. Before buying anything. The print shows pin numbers for the EHC. Disconnect battery remove connector and check continuity from pin 45 to black wire at the pickup sensor and so on. Try and print out the diagram so you have it at the bike. My guess is either the sensor or speedo ground is open. If you find it and fix it you may have a few spare good speedo's.

Check for 12 volts between the red and black wires at both the sensor and speedo first. If you have it at both, then the green wire between them may be broke? Sounds like you got a couple of speedo as parts when you bought the bike. I would check that green wire.
OK I unplug the sensor turn the key to the on position. And check for power active sensor not the short wire off the sensor the other one. I get 13+ bolts if I ground it to the bike if I ground it to the black wire I get nothing. Does that mean the wire is broke between there and the speedometer?

Sorry I checked the wire that plugs into the sensor

No those wires come from the EHC. That means the black wire is open. There is the problem. This is why your speedo is not working.

That’s what I figured. Is there any good place to start the adventure looking for a bad ground or is it a one by one all the way through the bike until you find it

I guess what I’m asking if it was you where is the first place you would look

The sensor is not getting the 12 volts it needs to send the pulses to the speedo. You need to ground that black wire going to the sensor somehow.

So could I cut it in some cosmetically OK place and ground it? Or would that just messed up something else?

Is this the only thing that is not working? If so you could

Yes that would get it working again. Trace it back and cut it somewhere long enough to put a ring terminal on and attach it to ground/ bolt?

Yes it is the only thing not working. I will track it down and find out why like may be this winter when I don’t want to ride it I just don’t want to blow something out and it cost me $200 to fix if you know what I mean

Now that I think about it, my tack doesn’t work is the only other thing.. could it have the same ground or something?

How do you check the green wire ohms?

Set your meter to ohms. The dispaly should show OL then touch your leads together it should read something like 0.3 Now check from the sensor connector heading to the EHC and the plug to the speedo.
