Dude that's a 3" belt? Looks like a 4" to me, or is it just an optical illusion. How does it sound, does it give off a nice whinning sound? Did you change your crank main bearing seal? Thanks for sharing...:2thumbs:
Thought the same thing at first. It's the reflection off the chrome you see.

Where my foot is with 3" it naturally sits right in front of the outboard pulley. I havent been on a long ride yet so I cant gauge whether fatigue would pull the foot closer. It would just be a guess at this point and time.

There is sufficient room between the belt and the peg I dont think much difference would be noticed between 3 or 4. If need be could shoot photo with foot sitting on a peg if it would clear up some thinking.

Just found the small oil leak from the crank seal. did not read anything on this before in the posts. Have not messed with replacing one before. Any info on doing this would be appreciated. I did read you need to install reversed for dry primary. Any Special tools or tips?

Give it a week. Mine had some for a couple of days then stopped. Did not reverse or replace the seal. Been one year no leaks:2thumbs:

I'm getting ready to buy a belt drive from Jim. Just to let you know he's going to be closed until the 8th. He'll be attending the Cincinnati trade show. I'm not sure if he'll be replying to emails or not, but he did answer mine this morning and mentioned this...:2thumbs: You will have to contact Jim for pricing and he does give us on this site good pricing, just mention that you're a member...:2thumbs:

That belt looks great on your bike JR.
I love the looks of the open primary belt and they sound awesome. I would be a little concerned about getting a shoe lace or pant leg caught up in it.

Have you noticed any difference in vibration? More / Less or remained the same?

Bill you gotta call for pricing. Jim discounts for specific reasons you gotta chat with him....

Earl With the nasty weather lately Aint had much ridin time but I noticed a smoother clutch operation, not much difference in vibes.

Hmmm, yeah I'm liking the 3" but I would like to see someone take a pic of them sitting on the scoot with a 4" Karata belt drive. Can someone do that for us?
How tall are you F18?

So I just about did this mod (Karata belt drive) last year and then heard a lot about crank oil seal problems...seemed to be an issue with some guys but not for others. Whats the dope on this and are there any how-tos out there on replacing or reversing the crank seal? Why does this problem occur?

meyerld our bikes come set-up for wet primaries, this means the sproket shaft main seal lip is facing away from the flywheel which keeps the primary fluids from entering into the engine crank area. If you change to an open primary (belt drive) S&S suggest that you change the sproket shaft seal and face the seal lip towards the flywheel which keeps the oil in. Several members have changed to open primaries and never changed the seal position and have not had issues, but then again some may have. It's the owners decision...:2thumbs:

I'm picking up 4" from Jim tomorrow, taking the drive to PA to meet him in person. I'll remember to inquire about oil leaking and will post what leg position is next to a 4" belt as soon as I install. Going to do this Sat and Sun after picking it up Sat morning.
