Took the plunge and ordered the 3” intimidator series belt drive from Karata over the Baker system. I like all the commentary about the customer support and the quality of the product. After reading the “how to” Post from gasman about installing the belt drive decided it was a project that could be handled.
Called Jim at Karata on Monday. They did not have the OBBS I decided on in stock. Jim sent me pictures of what he had in stock. He answered all of my questions and even a few I had not thought of. Jim was very personable on the phone and it was a pleasure talking to someone who had a clue about what they were selling, and the end item their product gets installed on. On Tuesday I called Jim back with the decision I made on the OBBS and He completed my order. I live in Florida and By Friday a Large box was delivered to my door.
I started on Saturday morning 8th Jan about 3 am after a night of Poker. I work Graves so it is my time to be up. I have put in a few hours a night but not a constant job as I would like because of other commitments.

After removing the Inner primary I had quite a bit of corrosion on the face of the transmission that needed some attention to clean up. I also would note that the motor plate did not mate so I had to loosen the 6 bolts that hold the transmission. This required that the shocks be removed. If you are using a motorcycle lift such as the jack from sears you will need to block the rear of the frame lower the jack and remove the shocks.
Everything else in the instructions are easy to follow, along with the pictures in Gasmans How to posting. When I came upon the section for installing the shaft nuts I noticed I only had one nut. I placed a call to Jim and said that I was missing the transmission shaft nut. The left threaded nut. After a few seconds of thought Jim asked if I had disassembled the clutch yet. I told him I did. He asked me what I did with the springs. I said they are on my bench as they are the ones I will use when I reassemble the clutch on the scoot. He asked me to go look in the bag that had the other 2 sets of springs. Since I choose to use the 65 pound springs I put the bag back in the box and assumed that the only parts in the bag were additional springs. The transmission Nut was in the Bag with the other spring sets. I said I felt like an idiot. Jim chuckled a little and said things like that happen. Then he asked how everything else was going. I told him about the transmission having to be loosened up. He stated that was unusual as they typically bolt right up to the motor plate. We discussed this for a few minutes and he also gave me quite a few tips on installation that we had not talked about before. We must have been on the phone for twenty minutes. I thought it was cool talking to someone asking questions on his product so he could pass it on to other people.
Finished up the Scoot today. Rest of assembly was somewhat easy. It helps to mark the holes on the top of the outer bearings when mounting the outside support, they tend to rotate. The fit is quite snug and you won’t be able to rotate the inner plates to align screw holes.
Have not road tested yet but just testing the clutch adjustments I have noticed the smoothness of shifting into 1st gear. There was no banging, roll on of the clutch was very smooth. The sound of the belt is unmistakable; it has the sound of power.
So far have had a good experience putting this product on my scoot, The customer support is outstanding. If you are looking in the direction of one of these Modifications I would recommend the Karata Line.
