Just completed installing my 4" Karata Belt Drive today. Picked it up from Jim on Saturday and started work as soon as possible. I used the guide written by Gas Man and the Karata instructions and some tip from Jim. This is not an install thread but I just want to list some things that will make your install faster than mind. Frist and most important thing is to have all the right tools, and don't assume you do. The is a list of things to get if you don't have.

1. STRONG IMPACT Wrench, NOT THE CHEAP ONE FROM SEARS made by Craftsman’s (Can't do job without this
2. A "1 5/16" Socket for the engine bolt (most 1/2 set don't have this size check before getting started)
3. A 30mm Socket for the transmission, YES I SAID 30mm, it fix a lot better than the standard size and appears to be Metric not a standard bolt.
4. A set of Snap on Piles (pain in the neck to find too)
5. Rubber Hammer (If you don't have one, you will need it to get the belt on)
6. A 12" sprocket extension came in very handle. (Reach starter bolt)
7. BEER

Note: I didn't undo the transmission as Gas Man did during the installation because Jim from Karata said to try the Plate first and it fit prefect.

I haven't tried my belt yet because I'm waiting for my carburetor from XXX to come in so I have none at this point to try it out. But my wife even agreed that the bike looked BAD A$$ now.

No I did not have to pull the clutch rod at all and was wondering why he did it that way. Also go with the yellow springs unless you in to body building.

Well put it to you this way. A local dealer wanted $3900.00 plus tax. I live on Long Island, NY and Karata is in PA about 120 mile drive. With the price Jim gave me it was more than worst the time to drive down and get it myself. Plus I got to ask him quite afew installation questions, and weather I should worry about the oil leak roomer going around. He made me feel fine about the purchase and it's now install. But I still have no CARB YET :-(

Good Stuff:2thumbs: That was my bike Gas Man did the how-to on. It went very smooth. The clutch springs i used are a little stiff but i can now pick up 525 pounds with the four fingers on my left hand:roll:

Warning

Just got home and it has arived ( 4" Drive ) YEA... and tks for the info on the clutch rod.
Make sure when you atach the Plate to the engine and transmission you use 10 bolts in total. I have to go back now and put in a bolt I found later. The hole was in a funny place and I missed it. Also again GET GOOD IMPACT WRENCH!!!!

Or you're screwed.:spank:

Yes they do - all five of them on the tranny where the screws go on. The large one around the tranny shaft casing as well as one on the engine casing - around the rotor.

You mean the impact gun goes upto 225 lbs - correct?
Do you have any adjustments on the gun itself?
What is the dia of the hose 1/4" or 3/8"
What about your compressor itself - can you regulate the air flow?
Remember the tranny has REVERSE threads...LEFTY TIGHTY....
