I just bought a big dog and can't even get it started to ride it!

I took it to a napa store and it was load tested. Like I said, it will crank about 3 times and thats it. After that, it doesn't click or anything. It just won't turn it over at all.

Did someone tell you how to hit Off then Run button to do the Compression releases? Trying to start the dog without Compression releases might be tough

(No offense) because I just taught my buddy on his K9 last weekend when he was at the bar.

On another note, when I jumped it(yes, I will never do it again) it would barely turn it over. We let truck run awhile and it finally started. Could it be a loose connection still? I just want to be ready when the snow melts! Also, after it ran awhile and did start back on its own so I dunno

Well doesn't sound like a starter issue to me but you never know. I would see if you could borrow a friends good battery and try it again. Still sounds like the battery or connections to me.

Tell us how you are trying to start it. Are you using the Enrichener? How many twists of the throttle? Are closing the throttle while it cranking? Did you put new plugs in it?

The battery is what I had tested. No I don't know how to do the compression thing. I suck at mechanics. I turn gas on, pull up enricher, give one twist and let go and then try. I didn't replace the plugs, but am going to when I change all my fluids. Didn't think it was a plug issue because starting isn't the problem it is the turning over that is a problem

Still think it's a battery issue but starting it a large part of it also. Where do you live? What is the temp. I would replace the plugs and with a couple twists of the throttle and keeping the throttle closed give it a whirl. It should start right up.

I live up here in the NW and never use the enrichener, it just floods out your motor. Hope you figure it out though.

OK 2 things... Get that battery charged up turn key on up on your throttle grip hit the OFF Button then Hit the Run Button Then Two quick twist of throttle and hit start button. Dont use enrichner if you have to use the enrichner your carb needs adjustment (There is a How to) on here But you dont know yet if your carb need adjustment untill you read your plug (There is a how to on that too)
If you have questions give me a call we will get this Dog started
PM me if you want and I will give you me Cell #

ps might need to pull your plugs to check means you are using the enrichner

It doesn't sound like a battery problem to me, but a compression problem. You have a brand new battery with plenty of CCA's but it doesn't sound like you're engaging the compression releases. These are huge motors and need all the help they can get turning over. You need to hit the "run" button after you turn on the key. This will open the compression releases untill it fires. If this doesn't work try opening them manually . Also do you know what cam is in the bike? Some cams are dsigned to close the valves a bit early causing more compression and harder starting. Hope this helps.

The only reason I used the enricher is because thats how it told me to in the manual. I think it is a compressoin issue. I don't know much but to me a fouled plug wouldn't keep the bike from turning over would it? I would like to try that push button deal for the compression release if someone has a link. ITs 51 degrees today! Had to work 2 shift last night just now caught back up w my thread

There is a rubber bubble in the center of each head. Push them down and give it a try. I don't think that is your trouble though. My bike has no compression releases and it cranks fine (a little slow but never not started).

Good luck.
Have you contacted the seller?

If the motor gets too rich from either the en-richer or twisting the throttle or holding the throttle open just a little, the compression increases dramatically. :nono:This will inhibit it from turning over sometimes! :yesnod:

Is it doing any coughing back through the carb. or backfiring?

Try the en-richer at about 1/2 or 1/4 way up, "NO" twist of the throttle. See if that helps any. :2thumbs:

I agree with dead, I do use my enrichner. Only after the motor starts to crank over and then I only open it a hair.

I just went back and read your entire thread.

Does it still "crank about 3 times and thats it. After that, it doesn't click or anything" ?

When you push the start button, you hear "nothing"?

dead

I'll check back in a little bit, for your reply.:lol::lol::2thumbs:

I'll kind of start from scratch. Had the bike delivered. Wouldn't start. It did Start when the driver picked it up to deliver it to me. Noticed the battery that was on it cost 35 dollars(got all the receipts w bike) so I bought a battery anyway cause I didn't want to trust the cheap one( bought the braille 426cca). Turn over about 3 times. NO clicking like dead battery, just didn't have the power to turn it over. Jumped bike, let it run, shut off and started right back. Charged battery put back on few days later and same thing. About 3 slow cranks and thats it. I let off start button and try again,(no throttle) and pretty much the same thing. The battery is on a tender 24/7.

Ok, 1st I want you to try starting the bike again and when it gets to the point that it doesn't do anything, I want you to push down on the little bubble in the center of the hear and hit the start button again and see if you can feel it moving up and down.
Also listen for "any" clicking sound when you push the start button, from anywhere, ok?

Then come back and reply results.
