Ok, there is alot of talk about installing alarms.

Scorpio Motorcycle Alarms

In my estimation is the best alarm for your bike. It is specifically designed for motorcycles.

It has options that most don't. Such things as tilt, and perimeter. But hands down the best option is the pager.

I have the SR-i500. And its a great system. Now I DID get the BDM harness but its not nessicary cause all it does is make the tail lights flash. THAT IS IT!! If you don't care about that, then dont get it. So lets see what we have to deal with.

The main alarm unit with the bdm harness and power harness pluged in.

The BDM harness that you showed pluged in the unit above

Power harness

The shock & tilt sensors are internal to the main unit. However, the perimeter and ignition/starter kill are external add ons.

Both pluged into this which plugs into the main unit.

perimeter

ignition/starter kill (really just a relay controled by the alarm unit)

All of it plugged in ready for install

Now all you need to do is hook up the positive power lead to the battery. Now if you didn't go with the bdm harness hook up you're done. Just set it up.

For the bdm harness all you have to do is pull this harness that connects to your tail lights.

Open it and basically the new added harness goes inline

Now if you have the ignition/starter kill. You CAN NOT hook it up to your EHC or ignition. You will have adverse side affects. However, there are other ways. But to keep things private and "secure" if you want to know how you will have to PM me.

Now you have this ball of wiring and mess hanging outside the side of the bike.

Zip tie the wires together to help organize the rat's nest.

I relocated the horn to the front and zip tied the alarm to the horns bracket. Now granted later I moved the alarm to a new bracket under the cowl area.

Now button everything up.

good work as always gas - I have the Datatool S4 alarm - one thing I will mention in case its any use to anyone is that my oil filler cap started melting into the plastic casing on my alarm unit - just something to bear in mind when positioning it in there

Gas, I want to thank you once again!! I installed my alarm last night.. Easy as eating pie!!! On the 07 K-9 the only place I could find to mount it was under the battery box.. You still can't get to it without taking the side covers off.. I ran all my excess wire up the right side and put the perimeter sensor on the back part of the battery tray.. I still need to order the ignition disable.. But, this will give me piece of mind for Myrtle... Thanks again!!!

Its real easy. And if you go with the starter/ignition kill. Let me know, I have a wiring setup to run that... it works great!

Well went to hook up another one of these for a michigan boy.

Learned a few things from not having the BDM harness.

Your ignition and start kill don't work without it. And it also works for your ground wire for the entire system.

That being said, here's one of the newer units.

Now on a 2007 Bulldog there is no room on the right side.

So you mount it on the left where the horn use to be. HOWEVER, this makes the tilt virtually useless.

You have to tilt the bike way over to the right to get the tilt to kick in.

So left side sucks for the tilt.

You need the BDM harness to use all the features.

It still sucks making room for the unit.

Gas this is a timely post...I was just talking to my brother last night about an alarm. The new Scorpio models are i600 and i900. Which model do you recommend? Does anyone experience issues with the alarm running thier motorcycle battery down? If so how long can the alarm be on before the battery runs low?

As always...great step by step post. Makes me miss the post of you reserecting the Phoenix. :2thumbs:

I think that the only difference between the i600 and the i900 is the transmitter. I have the i500, which is the predecessor to the i600.

The Scorpio does draw some power from the battery, but since the bike is on the Battery Tender when not being ridden it is not noticeable.

You don't plug it into the bdm wiring. There is only one wire that touches anything bdm, and that is only if you want a starter kill. I have had it on my bike for almost 3 years.... NOT ONE PROBLEM!!!

My dealer attempted to blame my EHC failure on the Scorpo alarm. Funny how the same dealer serviced my Mastiff and performed the state safety inspection with the Scorpio installed. After I picked up the Matiff from the EHC replacement, I reconnected the Scorpio and attached the battery cables as documented in the service manual.
