One good way to tell if your battery is going is to check your headlight at idle, rev the bike up and see if it gets brighter. If it dims when it hits idle the battery is not fully charged and/or is going bad.

I just changed out a Harley battery for another Harley @ $137.00. I got about two and a half years out of it and I keep it on the tender( the green box "tender") all the time. it was not completely toast, just didn't have the nuts it should on start up. our dogs just do not do well on any kind of weak battery.

this past week one of the vendors at corvettes at Carlisle had the new "Battery Tender" line. the NEW tender is supposed to have the software to be able to handle the new jell battery. I have had my old style Tender for years and can't say enough good about it. also, Tender has some new high tech battery which weighs a fraction of a regular lead battery and is supposed to have a much longer life. I didn't catch the price and it might be something somebody who knows more these things can comment upon.

Hey guys,my last two batteries have been Braille B2015's,I get about 2 1/2 yrs out of so that's not too bad, when they shit the bed they really shit the bed.My question is,has anyone found a real good cranking battery that will put up with Fl. heat?,the bike is kept on a tender, and I don't ride as much as I'd like to(back issues) When I lived In NY I ran a Yuasa that lasted about 2 1/2 yrs also, that's with a tender on it all winter(at least 4-5 months).BTW I just called Auto anything for a price,$187,In 2013 it was $151.Just looking for opinions on a better battery to handle the heat,if there is one.
Thanks,Lars
Buy the largest cca battery ( forgot part #) from Harley Davidson I get good batt life have several bikes including 2 big dogs.

Due to the ease of just going to pick it up plus the fact of the 24 month "no hassle" warranty,I ,went for the Duracell,,,with ordering on line discount it came to $110,If I get two years out of it it's worth a shot,if I don't,I've got the warranty,,,,,I'll see what happens..BTW it's rated at 310CCA,tested 412 CCA.(I need HCA,not so cold here)
Thanks Guys for all the input,I hope you all get out and ride..Stay Safe,
Lars

I don't use the tender any more (because I don't have the special one that the AGM batteries require)
would you happen to know if the Yuasa smart shot 900 charger/maintainer is suficent for AGM,I've had it for a few years (7?),..Thx.

I've ran a Wal-Mart battery on my 107 for 2.5 years never once an issue.

Decided to buy a cheap one for the 117 off Amazon (same price as Wal-Mart) it lasted 2 months. Went with the Braille because I didn't want to fight it anymore if I don't get 3 years out of the Braille I'm sticking with Wal-Mart.

2.5 yrs seems to be the average with exception to BBChop,he must've filled his with that high test hootch he drinks...If I can get 2 1/2 yrs for $110 Vs. $190 I'll take it,Walmart 2 1/2 years is that's impressive,,who knows maybe I'll go Walmart on the next one.

The BIG problem with trying to get a few years out of a battery is they will die in an instant usually in a bad place or time. Every battery I had die on me started the bike and then died miles away from home. One time the battery died at a bar at 2am and the local cop came over to see if he could help. He noticed I had a few drinks and took my key. The bar was closed and back then there were no cell phones and the bar was in the middle of nowhere. I spent the night sleeping on the porch of the bar. For a lousy $80 battery (which I had to buy the next day) I could have been home in bed.

Duracell is made with Deka, which parent company is E. Penn. One advantage to their batteries is the solid posts.
I heard the founder of the E.Penn Co. just passed away recently.

YES, according to Yuasa;
"Any of the Yuasa automatic “smart” chargers will maintain both Conventional and AGM types of batteries without overcharging them."

2 days ago I moved the bike outside for a start up and I'm not impressed with the Harley battery I just put in 5 months ago, I had it back to the dealer and load tested, charged and put back in and on a tender. I hit the start button and after a few click, click, clicks, it turns over and starts. It just doesn't seem to have the nuts like the other battery's that I had. When they load tested it, they said it pulled 450 amps, my other battery's that I have tested in the past load tested to 800amps. So I ordered a new Duracell and will have it load tested before I pick it up. I can throw this Harley battery in my 4wheeler, yes my Polaris 4wheeler takes the same battery as the Dog, whats the odds of that.:old2::whoop:

Not really impressed with Harley and with that said everybody has their good and bad experiences with battery's and at this point whether its Braille, Deka, Exide, Harley, Yuasa, Tomioka or Duracell and any other mfg, there's always going to be good and bad. Its like my momma always said, well you get the idea:oldlaugh:

is there anything i could use in the battery tray to help with vibration ?
You could buy some sill insulation at Home Depot or Lowe's, a roll is 6" wide by 50'. its not expensive and its 1/4" thick and it will compress. Cut a piece about 15-16" long and wrap it down the side under the bottom and back up. Just make sure that your seat doesn't hit the hot lug on the battery, it could ground out.
