Hey guys,my last two batteries have been Braille B2015's,I get about 2 1/2 yrs out of so that's not too bad, when they shit the bed they really shit the bed.My question is,has anyone found a real good cranking battery that will put up with Fl. heat?,the bike is kept on a tender, and I don't ride as much as I'd like to(back issues) When I lived In NY I ran a Yuasa that lasted about 2 1/2 yrs also, that's with a tender on it all winter(at least 4-5 months).BTW I just called Auto anything for a price,$187,In 2013 it was $151.Just looking for opinions on a better battery to handle the heat,if there is one.
Thanks,Lars

Do you keep it on the tender year round? I am still on my original '09 battery, unless I am riding it is on the tender along with all my other toys.
I don't know of a better battery for the heat but the Braille seems to be very popular on this forum.

Try a Big Boar. I am in Florida also and I use these batteries in my K9 and my 110 Harley. I have been getting about 3 years' service on the K9, longer in the Harley.

I am on my third battery in 10 yrs. My first lasted just over a year and died after I left the ignition on and the bike unattended for two weeks. The second lasted four years, and the third, which I have had for almost five years is a Harley battery. As for the heat, well living here in AZ and riding almost everyday, most often in triple digit temps, I have no complaints. I think I paid just over $100 total, including tax and all that stuff.

battery tenders are not good for Absorbed Glass Mat batteries. The AGM batteries are not supposed to be charged below 10 amps and are supposed to be charged at more than 14 volts.
I think they may have some tenders out now that charge at more than 12 volts, but my old one doesn't.

I have a big battery charger with a "battery recondition" (or desulfate) mode. That mode is not needed for AGM batteries but I used that mode once a year on two Yuasa batteries (regular wet lead-acid) in my boat, they were still good when the boat was sold this summer and they were bought in 2006 .

I live in Fl and I've tried all kinds of batteries over the years. I've tried high priced ones, mid priced ones and low priced ones. They all seem to last around 2 - 2.5 years and one day just die. I now buy Walmart batteries at around $80 and they are warranted for a year. If one goes bad within the year I get a free one. Every year on my birthday I buy new batteries for my bikes because it's good insurance. Last years battery from the dog is in my zero turn mower and is still going strong. We spend hundreds of $$ on a piece of chrome that won't get us home so a new battery every year isn't that big a deal for the peace of mind. The heat here in Fl kills a battery quick even if it's on a tender.

Just installed a new battery today, your gonna laugh- I did but I bought a Duracell. they sell them at batteries plus. comes with a 2 year (non pro rated ) warr. its was $135.00 with tax. eastern penn is the manufacture. the 20 HL was rated at 310 but he tested it for me before I bought it and it tested at 485 cranking amps. that spins the 117 like it had no spark plugs in it. Cant testify how long of a life it will have only time will tell. and yeah its a challenge here in Fla.

That's the one, same part #. my brother is gonna go get one for his Texas Chopper tomorrow. Batteries plus is just around the corner from me.
They emailed me a 10% off coupon code, so I ordered and paid on line. picked it up from the store for $120.00

I wish it had a copper top, that would be funny looking

Not to jack this thread, but I have a question for you guys. why when LED's, tender connections etc. are installed, why is the electrical connections for the LED's run to the battery posts that the positive and negative starter cables are bolted to. I guess what im asking is why are the LED connections not bolted to the top of the battery posts and leave the side posts for the starter and ground?

I bolted LED's and tender connections on the top and ran the starter positive and negative only on the side terminals.
Is that O/K like that or is that something that should not be done like that?
I checked seat pan clearance and I have between a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch clearance, should'nt make contact.

Comments?

I did put that Duracell on a charger, 10 amps for about 10 minutes it then read 13.75 volts figured that was plenty.

6 years on a Big Bore,in Fl ?,DAAMN that's awesome,,as funny as it sounds, that Duracell has a 24 month warranty,Full replacement..Not too shabby..forgot to mention I Do Not have comp.releases,.Duracell,Big Boar,Yuasa and Deka are high in the running now,,,Braille's not bad, just might want to try something else,,Walmart,,not knocking it at all, shit,if it works thats great.I may just check that out also,.A big concern I have is,when they shit the bed,I'd like a little more lead time than "oh by the way,,your fu**ed"..I know, wish in one hand, shit in the other,,thanks for all the replies, input,,
Cheers,Lars

... I bought a Duracell. they sell them at batteries plus.....

I have had one for year and a half, no problems so far. Got it at the batteries plus in Baton Rouge. I don't use the tender any more (because I don't have the special one that the AGM batteries require) so I just charge it about every 3 or 4 months. If it makes it to the spring I will probably replace it with another one just like it, like Bill, just to make sure it will be good when I want it.

The issue I have had with all 3 batteries that have been in my scoot is that it does take about 20 minutes of running to fully recharge the battery. So if I crank it three or four times to move it around the yard for whatever reason, and only run it for a few minutes each time, the fifth time it doesn't have enough juice to crank it.

I assume this is why batteries don't last 5 years like in a car. A battery usually has a limited number of complete charge-discharge cycles. Because our scoots discharge the battery by 20 to 30% each start, they only last 1/3 or 1/4 of the time of a battery that only gets discharged about 5 or 10%.

The regular lead-acid batteries tend to give more warning when they get toward the end of their life, they seem to slow down on the starting speed, but the AGM's seem like they flip a switch.

But I use the AGM's in my Mastiff because I have had the dreaded rusty spot on the frame under the battery vent tube on other scooters I have had.
