Why the big difference between the same engines
I bet in many cases what you get for HP and Torque depends alot on how it was broken in. Case in point, my 2005 FLSTF 88" was upgraded to a 95" (non-hd parts) along with other items which is a set price from a local builder who did the bulk of upgrades for our local HD HOG chapter. I ran the shit out of mine straight out the door from the dealer as this is how I drive. On a calibrated dino my TC-95 hit 101.1hp and 99.7 ft/lbs of torque. Three other friends I ride with day in ad out with the same motor and year had the same exact mods done at the same time and mine beat them all by up to 21hp and 18+ ft/lbs of torque.
All four of us had a dino done prior to the upgrades and all were pretty close about 68hp and 70ft/lbs - mine was 71/73.
The dino runs were all done after our 500 mile break-ins and within a few days of each other so weather, temp ..etc was the same. So why?, We covered this in a thread sometime back about how you run it when new goes a long way to determining what power you end up with.
Comparing riding styles I was far more aggressive - shit on the way to BikeToberFest I was running with sport bikes over 115mph plus on the dog. I ride the dog the same as I rode my harley and after the 2500 mile service it will go on the dino and then comes the mods.
The parts in our engines are the same, they are built the same, the tolerances are the same - so what is the root cause for the variances. I swear its the break-in as does my engine builder that this contributes more than one would think in determining the power we end up after 2500 miles.
It would be interesting to compare results with so many having the same engine along with the mods done. Granted this may be too much to ask for given variances between dino's, its current condition and calibration will certainly come into play.
