clutch issue, need assistance

so guys I have the mastiff back together. but now it won't crank. when I press the starter out just clicks doesn't even turn over. also the transmission is in gear but the shifter won't shift any gears. will the big dog not crank while in gear? any advice is appreciated.

ok guys I'm hoping this is the final time I have to ask for help on this project. I figured out why it won't turn over. I didn't have the ground plugged into the back of the starter, and power going to the starter isn't making a good enough connection due to corrosion. that I can handle. but I've put the bikeon the ground and it still won't come out of gear. could the shift lever be set too far back, or did I tighten the clutch basket too much? I mean I'm at loss on this one.

My starter doesn't have a specific ground wire -- it grounds by contact with the frame etc.
There is a green wire that goes to the starter solenoid, but that's not ground.
If I were you, I'd pull the clutch back off the bike and start checking from there.
