ok guys this is where I'm at. the problem is the tranny. I'm attempting to remove now. is there a way to take the final drive belt off without removing the rear tire?
.
Your main trans shaft might have snapped. It happened to mine on the freeway in 5th. There
is an improved shaft from Baker.

it's crazy to think the shaft would have snapped after only 8k miles. but I don't know how it was cared for before I got it. y'all are right I've learned a lot so far. debating whether or not to take the transmission somewhere or try to rebuild it myself. any suggestions would be appreciated

Mine snapped at 5k. It looks perfect with 2700 miles when I bought it. But it had been abused.

Seems like you have the chops to do it yourself. No one will take more care on your bike and do it better than you. Good chance to get to know the tranny. Have a chat with Curtis at WSX. He had done dozens of these and can give you some guidance. He is a straight shooter and always willing to help. He can also get you the parts kit you need.

cool thanks for the info. is WSX a company?

ok so spin the tire and drive shaft won't spin but catches some when you roll backwards. spin the drive shaft and the tire won't spin. is my transmission fucked?
Your going to have to remove the spark plugs to spin the shaft. You can’t spin it with compression

WSW is here for you guys when you need us.
We have all the parts for the trans rebuilds as well as the tools to do the tear down.
KaptinAmerika, I'm thinking of doing the transmission rebuild myself. I'm only hesitant because I've never messed with a transmission before, but then again I've never torn apart a motorcycle either. If i decide to do this on my own would you mind looking at my shopping list to make sure I'm ordering everything I need from the start?

Hi Sparky

We're here to assist in any way we can.
If you are mechanically inclined, have the tools and the patience then WSW has everything else you need.
We even have a set of tools to rent so that you can break the transmission down and put it back together again.

hey guys. so I finally got the transmission back after getting it rebuilt. when I picked it up they asked if I had the main transmission left side hub seal. I'm thinking of course I do I didn't throw away anything. well for the life of me I can't find that single part. I'm thinking it may be still inside the clutch basket. am I right or did I misplace this part?

Baker has them for $6.95, part no-120-DD6R, I'm surprised the people that rebuilt it didn't put one on it.

No one mentioned the clutch carrier. If it was me I would buy the updated one and install it
while it is all apart. I have one from Derek and Donna sitting on my shelf. It was not that expensive

Paul..

And make sure you use new hardened nut and washer when installing the hub.

so guys I have the mastiff back together. but now it won't crank. when I press the starter out just clicks doesn't even turn over. also the transmission is in gear but the shifter won't shift any gears. will the big dog not crank while in gear? any advice is appreciated.

Sounds like your primary is still locked? Did you forget to remove the locking block when you tightened everything up?
Is bike in neutral or in gear?
Pull the primary cover off and inspect primary.
If that's not it, pull clutch pack and then check transmission for spin (jack up, rotate wheel

Will crank in gear if clutch is pulled, if you leave clutch out and try to crank the bike will lurch forward.
