Yes it's left hand thread, so clockwise will loosen. If you heat it up, use a heat gun, not a torch. A good air impact will get it loose. Make sure your air compressor is up to 120psi.

I cant get it. I heated it, used a breaker bar,,,cant get it. what a PITA. Using a huge screwdriver to hold the clutch basket from spinning at the same time is tough. Im gonna try again tomorrow Im beat for tonight lol

Screw driver? Is the belt off, if not have someone hold the rear brake or borrow one of those thing a ma jiggers that hold it in place (can't think of the name for it).

Wedge a block of wood with rag wrapped around it between primary chain and clutch hub. Worked for me.

I picked up a piece of 2"x1/4" flat bar at Lowes and cut it to fit between the two sprockets on the heritage that I was working on and it worked like a charm. Harley sell this as a" special tool" at a "SPECIAL PRICE". You can grind the ends smooth and wrap in electrical tape to protect the teeth. Cost about five bucks total. Just make sure it is cut long enough to lock the two sprockets together and not too long to fit between the two.

Yours being a Rivera Primo clutch, you will have a very hard time holding the center carrier in place while trying to loosen the nut. Your best bet is to use an air impact or even a heavy duty electric if you don't have air available. If your using a screwdriver to hold it, you will break something.

Ive got a milwaukee HD electric impact. Hasnt worked so far. Im going to try again today. I bought a 24" breaker bar and a pry bar that I think will lock the center carrier. Ill try the impact a few more times but if I cant get it ill go for the breaker bar. Wish me luck!

It's actuall the center carrier Im holding with the screwdriver, not the entire drive. but thanks for the tip!

Oh and just incase sometime in the future someone is wondering the socket size for the clutch hub nut it is 1-1/8" for the big dog chopper 03.

I couldnt find that info a few days ago and had to measure before I bought the socket. Make sure you get a 1/2" drive I doubt 3/8" drive will hold up to the amount of force needed to break it loose.

holy shit I got it loose!,(without breaking anything else!) I think..lol Impact gun I have is apparently not strong enough. Im sure the red locktite from 2003 didnt help...I chopped up a small piece of 1/4" aluminum to chock the inner basket and put it in first, i applied the 24" breaker and held it in place with my foot while i whacked it a couple times with a 3' piece 1' ridgid steel conduit lol....i was very suprised that it only took 2 strikes to knock it loose...it was an all or nothing situation i was either gonna break something or the nut loose lol...electricians usually do it with strippers and dykes but a couple long shafts worked out well in this instance haha

I guess Ill have to take the starter off anyway. the all balls jackshaft has a spline washer and spring that goes on the starter shaft. Quite sure I would drop it into the belt no mans land trying to get it on through the chaincase side.
