Thanks for the update and now I see your frustrations more. The ground in the frame does sound like a good place to start and it can be a bitch to locate for sure. Would not be the first time one went to throwing parts at something only to it or another come back due to a bad wire.

I am glad that you are getting it resolved, but still recommend that you get the books and a good multimeter and start trying to learn the good troubleshoot for any future isses, be it the Dog or an old jalopy.

There is some good info on this forum and most will try to drive in the right direction to help one out.

Hopefully if you have to deal with dealer again, their new mechanic will set you in the right direction and not such a run around.

Still interested in leanring more about the change out to a 2009 type harness and EHC. Anyone else know about that for the olders bike, the only thing I am aware of, was when some of the older EHC where changed out, it went from one type of PC connector to a different type (PC2 to USB if I recall right). Other than can not grasp the difference between and 05 EHC type and a 09.
The only difference that I can tell is that one model is male and other is female..They obviously thought the EHC for 09 was better and from what I learned on here from the Engineer on here that just got laid off at BDM they fixed them in 07.Sine they wanted to change my year EHC they had to change my connectors obviously..Didnt know until the last one blowed and 05 model EHC wouldnt work anymore because of this...Just goes to show you that there was such a problem with my year model when they fixed the EHC they also swapped the connector so they wouldnt be using an old EHC in a newer bike..With new connectors the old EHC wouldnt fit..

A little off topic, but the FNG lable does stand for Fucking New Guy, however I have heard that since as long as I can remember, be it bikers or military.

Though it does sound rough, many time it is used as a means of identifying the new person as they learn their way, go through the mistakes and learn the lesson that all go through. Many vets may remember that for the newbe that just came into the field and used it to not to get to personal with the new guy due to a chance of them getting hit and and making it even harder on the old timers, if they had something of personal relationship to only have it come to a tragic end too soon.

I have also seen it used very tongue in cheek and has a lable for the people that were joining a well established group and being welcomed into it.

There is a a couple of big rides every year from California in support of Rolling Thunder called ride to the wall. These people will ride across the country just to show respect to our falling service members as well as those that did not make it home. All new riders are given a button or ribbon with FNG on it. Sort a badge of honor that all get for their first time, but regardless all are welcomed as are all FNG here.

Once a member is been here awhile and get to know some of the members and tha overall character of the forumn, they will loose the lable but hopefully be there with an open hand to welcome the next FNG.

So to all the FNG that come here, welcome to what I feel strongly is an excellent group of people overall, regardless of there joys or frustration with Big Dog the company or the motorcycle. I myself will go join a few of the old members here today to celebrate a BD with one of the members and maybe meet a few FNG that will become long term riding buddies and maybe even a development of a few friendships.

OK I FOUND IT! LOL

Buildm, I can absolutely relate to your problem, it's frustraiting, I've got the Same Model and year as you and guess what, Been through 3 Batteries and 3 EHC's. Since my Warantee is up, I don't know what is going to happen if I loose another EHC, I'd say that I'd take a similar approuch as you only Minus the BBB.

What you have to keep in mind here, although BDM does probably scan though this site, I've seen many posts on here that were derogatory in nature and not at all flattering to the product, however, pissing on a product that 90% of the members here own and love is probably not the best way to gain friends or get probems resolved. Suffice to say that you go to any site, Harley, Honda etc etc and you'll see your product bashing, I don't think BDM's product is any better or worse then any of the other Manufacturers, however, I Have seen them go way above the others in the customer service department.

If I had to guess, your problem was coincidently solved with the threat of the BBB, rather, you finally got to someone who understood your situation, therefore was able to make things happen, Point Being, if you don't get the answers you want from somene at BDM, Move it up the line within BDM until you do.

Chopchop, If your offended by FNG, then you probably are one, I'd guess you have either no military, or Biker Background for that matter, because thats as common as FTW, DILLIGAS, DILLIGAF, etc etc etc. If ya Need some help with the definitions, PM me, I'll tell you to STFU and make Sure your GTG :)

Just thought I would let everyone else know what i have been going through with BDM..They treat you like they don't know you unless you are gonna do something for them just like some people on this site that have been Doggin me out....I only posted this to help anyone else that may be having a similar problem..I thought that was one of the reasons for this site..This is a place that I have definitely learned that I'm not alone with this issue...If you dont like listening to my so called whinning then don't read it....I damn sure wont be beating on your post calling you names..I know karma will come around...So next time your bike leaves you on the side of the road for this issue..Think back to this...At least if I had a honda 90 I could probably use it to get to Little Sturgis next weekend...

Everybody here knows about the issues with the EHC so if you came here thinking you were 'breaking new ground' you were mistaken.

Most of the members' experience here with BDM and warranty issues have been positive from what I've read but if you call them acting like an ass (not saying YOU did) you will get very little support (duh!) and we've had many member (FNGs to THIS forum) come here and bitch and whine about how BDM sux because they didn't fix their bike which is out of warranty.

Maybe you should spend some time reading the help wanted sections and seeing what some folks have gone thru. We have some historical info on these bikes that is pretty good.

Glad you are getting your bike fixed though.

As for not reading your post/thread if I don't want to? As mods/admins, some of us have to.:D

Good luck.

Wow..is all I have to say about this thred. I thought a Bog Dog was a bike a I would want to buy and granted all bikes have their problems, but the dealer he is talking about is the only dealer around where we live in Nashville. I was in there looking around the other day, and it seems like a pretty fair looking shop but after reading this, I don't know if the bike is worth the headache

Icehead,
haven't seen too many of your posts so welcome to the forum. Allow me to commend you for your research BEFORE the purchase. While some bikes here have had issues, many here have not.

However, you are absolutely correct in gleaning as much information on the product as you can prior to plunking down 30+k.

Many folks have come on to this forum without doing any research (or opening their owner's manual) after having made the purchase and are totally lost (and usually pissed).

If the 'headache' is not for you, then by all means, don't do it. If you are willing to put in the work/time on owning a production custom bike and all the good/bad things that may come from it, then pull the trigger.

LDO sends.

I think BDM makes a fine machine, otherwise I wouldn't have paid a shit ton of money for one. I've had one problem that was corrected extremely quick by Joe Harrison Motorsports in San Antonio, TX, not the dealership I bought the bike from in Houston.

I say the bikes have some issues, but it does seem to be the minority of owners. Many don't have a problem but when they do, you NEED a dealer that can diagnose and fix it. I can't blame you for being worried about buying one from a dealership that seems to be lacking in their service department. The dealer is half of the equation, sad to say, and some don't seem to cut it. I'm lucky to have a BDM dealership close to me, and they have been in business for 36 years now and sell a lot of Big Dog's as well as imports, can-am's, quads, etc....

Just to let everyone know what happened to my so called "Diagnosing" problem of my bike..When I took it up there my $150.00 battery has took a dump again so it was replaced and also a circuit breaker has came apart that I had taped in place the week before I took it so they replaced it for $5 bucks but as for BDM actually having them look at my bike and determine what was causing my bike to keep blowing the EHCs and the batteries BDM authorized the dealer "R&B Cycles" to take my bike on a 20 mile test ride to Diagnose my problem...Of course when I found out I sent BDM an email thanking them for having R&B ride my bike to see what the problem was...I told them it was much like putting a dollar in a slot machine...I even got billed $5 bucks for the gas for them to ride it...They must of went on a good joyride though because my speedo says they went over 60 miles on it...Needless to say I didnt get ANY help from BDM..Only more frustration and a $250.00 bill for the battery and gas and labor in which I would of done myself if BDM wouldnt of told me they were going to actually find the problem..So if you own a bike with EHC problems...Your on your own..I'm going to install the Wire Plus when this ehc goes out....
