How many of you have sent off your tranny to Baker for a rebuild?

I am about to pull mine out of the bike, and send it to them for a basic rebuild. Bearings & seals. I have replaced the main outer seal, the Quad Seal, and the pully spacer and I still have a leak once i ride the bike and park it with warm fluid.... Which drips on the chain, and then my wheel, and everything it can sling on. Been pissing me off, so why not get it fixed by them.

50 bucks an hour, 1-2 hours total labor. and 250 for all new bearings and seals... so 350 tops, and it should be good as new.

anyone else sent them a tranny? anything else they may say i need replacing? Shift forks or something? Just post up if you had something worn you where not aware of.

My bike currently rides fine, and shifts fine. BUt i am tired of the leak, and I have replaced the seals i can get to form the out side..

When you replaced your seals, did you check to see if you have any end play or movement in the mainshaft? Just curious why you think it needs bearings. How many miles are on it?

My drive Puly came loose and it caused a leak.
I bought the seals from Andrew, there are three, I think you missed the seal that goes between the shafts. That was the most difficult to remove.

If you choose to have the bearings done, you will be in good hands with either Andrew or Baker.

I did not do the 3rd seal as they said you had to disassemble the tyranny for that.... Doing it the right way, some have removed with screws and such.

I don't think it needs bearings per say. But when disassembling, they have to press them out to get the shafts loose or something to they get new bearing and seals period. Can't hurt. Mileage is in the teens, but I have dicked with the leak for the last time. Going to pay for it to be done. Baker is about 100 cheaper then Andrew.

I hear you on the leak. I dealt with one almost all last year. Horrible, like you said it leaks on the belt and slings everywhere. Was real bad by the end of the year. I didn't want to tear it down and lose the riding season, so I was waiting till the end of the year because I was worried like you I'd have to send the trans off for a rebuild.

Once I tore it down I realized I didn't need to. I wish I had done it sooner cause I spent half the summer cleaning gear oil off everything.

I was a able to get that shaft seal out with a lot of struggling, bent broken screw drivers, picks etc.

One thing to ask Baker about is what bearings they are going to use. They are the ones who built the trans with bearing that fail in 20k miles or less after all.

Andrew says he uses higher quality ones. I don't know much about them, but I will research it before I do mine. Hopefully that is a long time from now.

Baker is only a hour or two from us. One of the guys (bigdogbro) choose to send theirs to Andrew. Maybe he can chime in on why he choose to.

I know where I had mine done, cause I drove it up to New York and watched him do it, a couple hours is all it took Andrew to do it. Great guy, great service and if you have any other problems with the bike or questions, the conversations are awesome also.:2thumbs:

Sent Bro2's trans to Andrew for rebuild. He found it needed (Mainshaft and a few other parts) more (about $1000) ended up near $1400 along with a NEW clutch carrier assembly for all expenses. All seems good now. Baker is an hour north of us.

I just cant justify it in my head to spend more then what the original manufacture is goingto charge me.... These bearings from baker, have not failed yet, and it was even ran low on fluid when i got it.. so I feel confident that Baker will be just fine. I also am not a rider that rides everywhere, I am a far weather, summer only, to work and local rides kind of guy. it will take me 20 years to get 20k on the bike ha.

If I were a bettin man, I would put money on the fact that you won't get away with the price they qouted you once they get it.
I've dealt with Baker and never had any problems or nothing bad to say about them, but I don't think you have any clue what they might find when they open it up.:zz2cents:
And yes that could be the case no matter where you send it.:whoop:

True but I can say that I have had a couple of customers that used Bakers service and what they were quoted is what they paid.

they SAID... that they will inspect and contact me before any repairs.. and I cna choose.

I mean it shifts fine I just want the damn leak fixed. and they do bearings at the same time... so if they FIND something, I would probably tell them to skip it.. ha its shifts fine!

unless the part is cheap then for sure, I mean while your in there. But I am not looking to spend big money..

Keep us posted on the result. Quiz them on the bearings a little too. I am still a little miffed that they are all failing so soon. IMO, they should have stood behind them better than they have.

Kinda sux, they screwed it up, now we have to pay $$$$ to fix their screw up.
