Yes, the object located in the bottom right in the photo I posted before is the spacer that goes between the wheel and the brake.
I'm thinking now that the mangled piece is what this image refers to as the "bearing cage".

The inner race is the in my original photo as labeled here:

The outer race is still in the wheel, and thus will need to be removed. At least, I think that is what's going on with this thing.
I'm a bit surprised that the motorcycle shop does not have the simple tool to remove the sealed wheel bearings.
