2007 BD Mastiff

I Have had nothing but heart aches with this "bike". All electrical, even went into arbitration with BD.

The issue I am having now is that the battery is fully charged, all works fine but the when the start button is pushed, ---- Nothing, Zip, Nada. No drain on the system, just nothing. I have had all major electrical components replaces at least once. I only have 550 miles on it and most of those were miles racked up for testing after repairs.

Any help would be a God send!

maybe is who is doing the work.... it seems odd thay if everything has been changed & it still does the same thing.. maybe thay should test the parts instead of just changing them.. its possible the new parts are faulty..maybe a faulty harness from the hand control to the ehc... hope you get it fixed soon..

I also would have to thing that whomever is working on it is missing something. The system is not that compicated and if the tech are fully confident and truly (truly being the key word), no how to troubleshoot, they should have been able to nail the culprit.

As Eric said, if it keeps changing around, something sounds strange. Granted the EHC can create problems, but it is is fairly easy to check all the other stuff out and narrow it down to EHC. If that is good or has been changed, then it is a matter or checking the switch and wiring. A good multimeter and knowing how to use it can nail those down pretty much.

You mention that it went to arbitrion with Big Dog, was that over lemon laws or what and if so, what was the outcome. Who is the dealer and has anything been done to it that changed the stock configuration?

If everything has been gone through, first place I would look is the circuit board connectors on the right control. Possible that when it was last worked on, that the connectors came loose (they are a PITA to put back together) or the wires got cut or chaffed. You can check the switch yourself by taking it apart, but take your time and it helps to have a helping hand to put back together.

Good luck

I bought it from American Classics in Birmingham, Al. They went out of business after a few months of my purchase. They "fixed" it a few times before going out.

After continued issues, BD had the new designated warranty center in B'ham pick it up. They "fixed" it. Had same issues with starting as always. BD THEN sent a tech to that shop and they worked on it again.

After then when we finely went to arbitration, it was out of warranty and the whole hearing was a monkey fuck and I lost.

We have a super shop here, the Chop Shop, they build bikes and they worked on it and all seemed fine. I got it back, road it out to the front yard and put a for sale sign on it. That night I brought it in to the garage, that that was all she wrote.

Your circuit breaker didn't trip did it? It's located behind your left electrical panel. Also try disconnecting your battery, some have said this resets everything kind of like a re-boot, it's worth a try...

Listen Rob. I am a dumb ass when it comes to this bike. In the Navy I was a Jet engine tech and now own a computer business. There are a lot of things I did in the middle (some I am not proud of! LOL!). Clue me in on what to look for, as far as where it is.

Bama, no worries. Pull your seat off, on the left side in front of the oil servicing port there's a little gray block which is a CB. On the aft side of the block you'll see a black button, make sure it's pushed in. Next I would try disconnecting the negative battery terminal, it should be a 10mm. Leave it off for a few minutes and reconnect. It's worth a try; I've heard this kind of re-sets everything. Hopefully this is all it is...

Makes sense, I thought there maybe a way just to "reboot". I'll try it this afternoon when I get home. Yes, owning a business means more work than expected!

By the way, do you put your battery on a battery tender? looking at your post it sounded like it started up fine when you put it out in the yard. Explain exactly what's happening when you turn the ignition on, are you at least getting the headlight to come on before trying to start? Just saying your battery may be too weak. If you have an Ohm meter check the volts before doing anything...

we need to start from the begining.. whats it not doing?? it wont trurn over.... lets start there... check the battery.. not just is it charged but load test it.. most auto stores can do this... if the battery checks out lets see why it isnt turning over.. is it a starter issue? hand control? ehc? lets take it 1 step @ the time.. maybe just a lose cable on the battery or starter... since we dont know what all has or hasnt been done we need to start over.. start with a good battery... we will help ya work through it...

Battery woes

I believe the battery voltage should be 12.8v or higher after being off the charger for a good hour for a good battery. I replaced my 2007 battery just a month ago, now it spins over real good. Before it would labor when trying to start, like the compression releases were not opening before starting.

You need to describe exactly what happens when you turn on the key and try to start the bike. Make note of the EHC LEDs after the key goes on.
