Documenting the tear down rebuild

Egg Crate isn't a bad idea, cheap option.
When I did my rebuild I went to Walmart and bought a bunch of Gallon and Quart Size bags with the plastic zipper. I put parts in and wrote on the bag, and put them in a couple boxes. If I had chrome pieces I would wrap them in paper towels tape them with painters tape and stick them in a gallon bag if they fit. I was working in a 1 car garage so laying everything out was impossible.

Ordered a new rear fender from bbc yesterday 750 for a raw fender? Still waiting to see what the insurance company is going to cover. Going to take the swing arm up to bbc in San Bernardino. They changed the way they mount the fender to their swing arms around 08. Guess this may be a common issue. Unfortunately because rage hard bought them out they are going to charge for the work.

Good new insurance will cover all damage!!! Met with big bear today and got things going to get new paint etc... Finished removing the primary and what a pita that was. Leaving again tomorrow for a week! Had to buy a tool from harbor freight to jack to clutch carrier from the primary.

Making good progress on the tear down. A few more thing to remove then the motor is coming out.

Taking the frame back to bbc. They are going to modify it with some new welds. They have finished modifying the swing arm and waiting to paint the rear fender. Going to get the motor polished in the next few months and a complete rebuild with the diamond cut. More pics to follow.

If you look at your frame in back of the neck there is a diamond shaped hole. If it were my bike I'd have 2 plates welded on each side to strengthen that area. A lot of stress is in that area and others have had a neck crack because there were no plates welded in. ( not on BD's that I know but other frames) It will make it ride better too.

I spoke with Kevin he is modifying it in the neck he explained what happened with their frames during their 04/05 production and said he wanted to do it just as a precaution while the bike was apart. Sounds like you hit the nail on the head!

Bike is ready to go! Tear down is complete with the exception of the transmission "Andrew you may be getting some more work" motor is getting modified too!

This is really my 2nd rebuild ! I did my pitbull about 2 years ago. That rebuild was based on me wanting to learn. This one was based on the cracked swing arm and the bike leaking oil. I enjoy turning wrenches and someday after retiring from the military may consider making my hobby a job!

As a vet nam vet thank you for your service. I'm sure you will learn a lot along the way. Take a note from Curtis Wild Workz and give the best service you can and you will be successful. I owned a chopper shop in the late 60's and early 70's and made a lot of money. Good service, good products and honesty.

Sent the transmission to Andrew today.
The frame is at big bear getting some mods and re powdercoated. Swing arm is finished and going to pick it up once the frame is done.
Tearing the motor down and sending it out for polishing and diamond cut.

Sent the heads and the cases out yesterday. I am using Mirror Finish Polishing | Metal Polishing & Buffing Services | they are on the pricey side. Anyone use these these guys before?
