More sad BDM news

Just went to the BDMperformance website, and it said " not currently doing business". I wonder what that means.

Looking forward to retirement
I have no remorse for the BDM Corporate family; they deserved exactly what they got. Had they not screwed their customers, they would still have a following, even in todays economy. They took shortcuts that resulted in way too many recalls and other assorted repairs (like my 12 starters). My first instance of their mentality was Biketoberfest 05. I had the bike 6 months and 2 days when I called them and explained that some of my aluminum was corroding and becoming discolored. First thing Anne Dixon said was, "What did you run through?" We argued in email for about 2 months. They finally said I missed the deadline by 2 days. I R&R'ed the bad parts and polished them back to life. My fins...well 2 years pitted and green until I could afford to powdercoat them. My seat lasted about 18 months. I called about that and her first statement was, "What did you put on it?" It was the tone and lack of any empathy or concern. The only parts that break on my bike are the BDM's.

Im sure Ill get some grief about my statement, but I dont care. America is a free democracy and these are my feelings. I just never believed people should screw each other. Thank you.
I still believe that he would have a better following if he had created a better product from the start. Hence, he wouldnt be closed and 99% of this site wouldnt be, "My shit is broke. How do I fix it".
The earlier bikes like 02,03,04 were bullet proof it was the later yrs that gave him trouble

Well some of us are still putting together things to keep us all on the road.
It ain't easy but I love the BDs and I will likely spend the rest of my life riding one and making parts for them.
I for one would like to thank you for that Curtis.

It certainly sucks that this has happened. I have been working on motorcycles for a very long time, and I enjoy working on the BDM's the most. When they were going strong back in 05 06, they had a great family out there in Wichita. Seemed like everyone I talked to and met during training classes were very nice and loved what they were doing. When I spent time with H-D, I never got that same vibe. With H-D, it felt like people were just working their "Job". With BDM, I felt like everyone had a true love and passion for what they were doing. I for one would love to see the company come back some day. Maybe some investors will buy it up? Wish Victory had bought into BDM rather than Indian.
But, on a positive note, myself and many others on this site are here to help with technical support. Weather it be over messaging, phone, or actually in person, we will do our best to help for many years to come. As long as Baker drive and S&S stay in business, we will be ok. A lot of the other parts can be replaced with something else.
On another note, I'm seriously considering doing a mobile service center. In the process of getting a trailer now. If I can get enough work lined up in your state, I'll be there

I was in Wichita this weekend for the Toy Run and besides the Big Dog folks that I went to hang out with, there were former employees everywhere. Big Dog was the topic everywhere. That whole town took pride in Big Dog and it just seemed almost surreal all these talented people out there who were once a part of the whole thing.

I'm aware of a few interested in investing that have or had affiliation with the company. I'm definitely hoping those knowledgable take it over and not just a random person with money.

It would be great if some of us were able to buy in for a portion

Actually, that's not a bad idea!! We have a few companies locally that are owned and operated by the employees. Everyone who works there would own a percentage of the company....I'm in!!!:2thumbs:

Yeah, me too... I'd expect that we could represent a pretty good chunk if we were able to organize it

hey guys I'm not a rich man or a smart man (spoken in my best Forrest Gump voice) but there is a method that may support this endeavor through a crowd sourcing format. If someone were to spearhead this with a guy like Matt from Big Dog (on our forum) and could organize all interested parties through this forum and word of mouth it might be possible to reserrect the company. May not be a good business plan from an investment perspective but may help revitalize the company that everyone here is so passionate about.

I'd participate as a low level contributor at least until I win the lottery, then would maybe buy everyone out.

You are right Pete,it's almost like they wanted to go that route, cuz u can't run a business on over priced parts and shitty service, and I'm sure they knew that.

OK guys, don't trip out. As long as we have guys like Andrew Barns (who, by the way spends hours and hours answering questions on here) we will be OK. S&S has said they will stand behind their motors and honor Big Dog warranties. I don't know about Baker. Basically, we have an S&S sitting on a big dog frame. Everything else can be fixed or replaced with afterarket parts. Cross reference and fitment issues are going to be a bitch, but not impossible. A good metal fabricator and a chrome shop will fill in the gap. We have all entered into the world of true custom motorcycles!
