Asking questions about motor work?

Like I said before, it could be a bad lifter.
Like I said, the entertainment some run you around chasing stuff on your engines.

Some other guys on here will tell you that if the lifter is bad, it will make noise at all RPM's...
It is like telling someone the piston is scored, but the thought process of some, think the piston is only scored when it gets hot. You see that walk?

... that's not necessarily the case.
When is that scored piston not the case then?

You see if these guys knew anything about these motors, and if they actually had spent real time working on them, they would know this.
Watch were the thought process takes us....

... Another easy thing to check is the Tappet screen. Make sure it's not dirty. But, I would think if it was the Tappet screen, more than one lifter would be making noise.
Then why go chase the screen? Did you bill that time to the customer and figure out the top end would be fried by now? Where is the first place the v-twin gets its lube? The top end. So the screen already made pressure to lift the ball to send oil to the crank, hello? LOL

Another question is, Have you owned this bike from day one? If not, it's possible someone messed with your pushrod adjustment.
How can the complaint start after how long has the guy owned it? The tick is starting in now is it?

You change out the push rods in your car? Aren't those push rods one tube in a preset sort of length? It no longer needs to be adjusted for the life of the car, hello?

 :2thumbs:

Was the noise there all the time? You step on my carpet I explain squid ears begins to hear funny noises and it's normal at higher speeds? Did the owner begin as a novice with said bikes? Like the lawyers buy a harley is their first bike ever? So, ear honor, we have a variable like the loose nut behind the wheel is looking for a net noise because I can't hear it from here, can you? :D

I got the bike after it had been left out in the weather and had become about as nasty as you can imagine {snow and rain}. I spent the next few months polishing and replacing stuff. Seat recovered, speedo full of water, rubbed the finger prints off my index fingers rubbing billet etc etc. I put the wire plus on it when the EHC croaked after I had rode it a couple thousand miles. Most everything with the help of this forum. I think I am in the beginning stage of learning a lot more about this motor just like I have had to do with everything we drive around here. I really, sincerly, dislike getting the screws put to me by someone trying to rip me off. I know you all understand.

Thank you all very much again, headed to work,

Ray :2thumbs:

Thinks you all will be pissed at me. The other day I changed the Air filter to a K&N filter, changed the transmission fluid ( 23 ounces for a 2004 baker 6 speed), cleaned the tappet screen. I was going to cut my back yard and the mower was on the trailer in the garage in front of the scooter. I roll the scooter out then roll the trailer out and hook it to the truck. The scooter is too long to turn around in the limited space so I broke the law!!!!! I rode it down the road and turned around without a helmet,, even went through a few gears too!!! No Helemt , no ear plugs or sunglasses ,, excepting to see the local police at about 3 gear . I got into it a bit and noticed the sound I was hearing seemed different without those ear plugs in my ears. I punched it a few times and it seemed like I was hearing the tank vibrating. Got it back in the garage before I got arrested and reached up under the tank especting to find a tank bolt loose but it was not loose,,, it was not there at all. The metal cover over the rubber mount was still there, so it must have very recently fell out completely. I replaced the bolt and put blue locktight on them. I took it out for an about 30 miles ride today, interstate and up to 85-90 a few times. It still has a sound at about that speed but it does not sound near as bad with the gas tank snugged down and tight on the frame. I can notice a little difference with the K&N filter too. I am going to go over the entire scooter and check anything and everything that might even get loose. I am very good about snugging bolts down when I put things back together on everything all the time. I just should have blue lock tighted them.

Oh, just a thought. When I searched on line for a K&N filter 2004 107 it said they didn't have one to fit it. I went to the only place in Nashville that still works on Dogs ( R&B ) and I got the K&N filter Part# E-3226 that fits perfect to replace the standard air filter.

Good deal Ray, I will still be glad to do the valve adjustment with you whenever we can get together to eliminate that as a possibility. Like Andrew said, could still be a lifter.

That is still in the plans in a few weeks. My Daughter said she would ride up there with me on her harley. My work is fixing to really pick up in just a little while,, and when I have work,, well you know.

Can I get my teeth whitened while I up there? :D My wife thought that was hilarious too.

Thanks everyone, Have a great weekend!

I have not able to ride much in a last little while and even after I replaced and tightened the existing tanks bolts it still had the noise when excellerating kinda hard. Not as bad as when the tank was loose  but still there. I have always ran premium gas in it the highest octane I could get too. The last couple times I when out for a spin I stopped and put non ethanal, even though I can only get it in regular octane. The very last time I took it out for about a 25 mile ride I came back down the interstate and noticed at about 75 mph I didn't hear it, and thought that is kinda weird. So I pushed it up in the higher numbers and rpms but still barely could hear it. So I am thinking if I get the octane # up on the non ethanal with an octane booster It might stop it completely. We had to start using premium gas in my wife's truck to get it to completely stop pinging and it get better mileage as well. I used to be able to get racing fuel when they still raced at the fairgrounds and I would run some of that through my 1200 Suzuki when I was close to where they sold it. I think it was around 103 octane. It ran great in it too.

Just thinking ,

Ray {You all have a great weekend!}

I would be right there and even pay ya for the fuel,, but wouldn't you know it it is raining in Tennessee. I ain't riding in the rain, well not if I can help it. My butt would possibly lose all feeling from my knees to my shoulders by the time I got to extreme northern California anyway. I am going to try to find some around here closer. They have closed down just about all the race tracks :(

It is greatly appreciated though, :2thumbs:

I am running the prescribed air pressure on the Avon Tires and try to avoid rough roads as much as possible. I did run them a little below the presribed air pressure but really didn't see much difference. I want the tires to last as long as possible.

Thanks,

Ray

Yeah I hear ya,,,,rough roads EVERYWHERE I live, and if the falling rocks, trees, deer, bears, fox's,squirrels, dogs running out in the road, and people slamming there brakes on aint enough,we have buckled up asphalt everywhere cause of all the logging trucks runnin back and forth to the local saw-mill here.......
They tear up the roads here fierce..I hit a pothole last week that was hidden in the shade, when i was going into a corner...it threw me UP IN the air, was scary....I'am 6.1 and 220 pounds....thought I was going over the handlebars and in the ditch...That woulda been my luck.......

I had the same problem with my 05 bulldog. I broke down my motor and dropped off the heads and jugs, fresh hone on jugs and rear head needs to be welded because valve guides broke free. Front head is ok but replacing all valve guides and seals. Total cost $480.00
