I took out my bearings and they need to be replaced, but not sure how to get the races out , I seen on one of the threads that you can use a cut off wheel ,,Is this the only way to get them out,,,,help,,,thanks

I used a brass punch and knocked both of mine out after removing the triple trees..
mine is a 06 k9 ,it has, i guess they are called bearing cups on the neck and the race slide into them , not sure how you could knock out with punch ,,,

those cups should come out with a punch, but don't fuck them up like I did with mine! The cups are pressed in, but if you look down there with a flashlight, you can see the lip where you can get a drift on them to knock them out.

Thanks LDO, I read thru there, but upon inspecting OGREEN's they appear to be pressed in, But maybe we just didn't try hard enough.

I am sure he will read this and let us know.

BTW.... he had no "Fall-away"

Our frames don't have cups. Some frames you have to press the cups in like my brothers BBC. BDM frames have built in cups so you just punch out the old races and press in new races and then install the bearings when you put the axle in.

Here is my brothers BBC frame, see the neck tube is straight. You have to press in the frame cups.

This is what the frame cups look like and after you press them in you see the nice chrome cups on top and bottom of the frame tube. The cup has the race built in it.

Here is my frame, see where the top and bottom of the frame is flared out. That is the built in cups.

All we have to do is punch out the old races and press in the new ones like LDO did on his bike. This is what we order.

to replace the bottom bearing on the triple tree last time I did it on a road king I busted the timken bearing took a dremel andcut the race then hit it with a chisle and knocked that sucker off. Cleaned it up and pressed the new bearing on.

I realize this is an old thread but does anybody have an idea how he did this? I'm thinking about drilling holes in the brace to punch them out, after heating them up.

Can't see the other side in your pic but wondering if there enough meat to drill 2 holes 180○ apart so you can put a drift pin to it?

I used a dremmel tool and made an angular cut in the race and then broke it out to remove mine. After I put it together I wondered it I should have put holes in the cups to allow removal with a punch as Kickstart is suggesting. Is there room for the holes to use a punch without removing the cup from the frame?

It is enough meat to drill two holes, one on the lower since it has the hole already.

Is that the right race? Doesn't look like the one I just got in the mail?
I hope so since I just took it off my bike. The 2006 K-9 has two different frames so fear not if yours is not looking like mine.

And the answer is: Curtis has that special tool needed to replace those bearings properly and without using a dremel or welder.

Gents, your are creating a mess of such a very simple job.
If you want to remove the outer cup the easiest way on any thing not just a BDM is to run a bead of weld around the offending bearing cap, dump it in a can of water (using protective leather gloves of coarse). Those cups will shrink and usually fall straight out.
Been using this method for 35 years and never had a failure.
If your quick and have all the bit there, installing the new cup while the thing is still hot makes life sooooo simple.
