ok 1st of all as far as driving goes...we TEXANS drive slow cause we aint in a hurry to get anywhere. 2nd we make it hard to get other state license changed over to help keep YANKEES out of our state. There are great restaurants all over the state bars also. We just make them look like run down shacks to keep YANKEES from goin there.I am 3rd generation oil field. TEXAS supplies alot of oil for our nation. Its true we brick our mailboxes cause bored teenagers bash regular mailboxes with baseball bats.and just a FYI the Roadhouse in Tyler has a great steak. In cloing if you don't like my state go back home YANKEE and freeze your ass off....plus only get to ride in good weather 3 months of the year..:lol:

Have you been following me to work in the AM.
Slamming on brakes in curves: gives you a chance to do some drifting around them and if your good all 3 lanes.
Butts out the window: try and catch those sometimes those are not cigarettes.
Brick mail box: so the youth of this state wont bash a metal one in.
2 types of identification: immigration wants to make sure your really from the north. And yea roadhouse sucks.
WELCOME TO TEXAS
and don't forget your CHL
Good stuff Mangy. I'm not sure my 4x4 Yukon is capable of "drifting". I didn't consider the mailbox baseball angle. The bricks would prevent that. The CHL is on my list.

Know of any openings? I'd love to get off the water and on a land job... it would make life a bit easier and better with the g/f. :D
Chesapeake Exploration is hiring that I know of, there are many Brokerage groups that hire on the daily bases. One is Kellum and Magee out of Dallas / Ft Worth Area, Michell Petroleum in Gonzales Texas, Dwight & Snell out of the Houston area. I work direct for EOG Resources Inc, formally known as Enron  and have for the past 23 year. Most of the Brokerage groups run 50 to 80 man crews and some come and go. Once they learn the trade some just go on there own. Pipeline is a big thing in this area as well. I fact there is a member on here that works the Pipelines in this area. I wish I had a crew myself, but is to much work and I am looking to retire within the next couple of years and I wouldn't want to leave anyone hanging without a job security. :2thumbs:

I am one of them Oil People :D the Oil People keeps the folks up north and around the world warm during the winter. It also keeps bikes, Car and Trucks on the road with gasoline and/or Diesel  Not to mention that the Money is good in the Oil and gas Industry (right Bubble Head ) the average Land-man makes about $600 buck a day plus expenses. Where ever we go we help the economy with rent money, food we eat and booze we drink. The locals may not like it , but when they get their first royalty check for some 200K per month per well (or better in some cases) than we the best people they have ever known.

Have fun in Texas man, life is to short to be picky :2thumbs:

Wow! The initial rant is exactly what I think of Minnesota! I came to MN from the northeast a few years ago and I am appalled at the lack of driving skills in the midwest (stopping for GREEN lights, slamming brakes on whenever anything even closely resembling a curve comes up, driving 10 mph below the speed limit in all lanes, etc.).

When I went to get my MN drivers license they wanted an original birth certificate (tried to explain that Boston General Hospital no longer exists) and two other forms of government ID. My current NH operator license, State Police id and military id did not qualify.

When I returned with more ID, I had to take the computer test then wait in line behind a non-english speaking asian (vc). When it was my turn, I asked the MV clerk what the "foreigner" had to produce for ID. He told me that since vietnam, like many other third world countries, does not have a good record keeping system, they just needed someone to "vouch" for them. Usually it's a family member or friend. As for taking the computerized drivers exam, they can also have someone help them since they are typically non-computer savvy and need a translator.

Great, I was born and raised in the US, served in the Marines, retired from law enforcement and I have to jump through hoops, but someone who doesn't speak, read or understand english and has no paperwork just needs a friend to vouch for them....No wonder MN is the epicenter for so many illegals and welfare sucking crud!

Oh yeah, heading to Texas for a month in mid-February. Going to do some hog hunting with the pistol, rifle and bow, plus look for some housing....anyplace is better than the USSR of Minnesota.

Been in Texas for 3 years this coming May via Boston.

I agree with you the Drivers License thing is a bit ridiculous, not only that its like a time warp. They only except cash or checks, who hasn't made the switch to VISA? As a note as well, they will want to see proof of insurance In Texas to get your license! So if you will need to bring your car insurance paperwork. At the time I got my license I was still insuring my bike in Massachusetts as it was cheaper, so I told them I didn't own a motorcycle at the time so they didn't press.

As far as the eats go, I think the South has some great grub! Texas Roadhouse is a franchise, hell they have Texas Roadhouses in Boston, I personally don't expect to get a great meal from any kind of franchise.

I have heard only good things about Denton, UNT is actually the third biggest college in Texas. The girls are just the right age :D, and I heard the drinks are ridiculously cheap. I only live about 30-40 minutes, need to make a trip up there shortly.

Let me LOUD and CLEAR. I have NEVER been anywhere in this wonderful country where the women are so incredibly beautiful, and to top it off they are very open to conversation. I am young, only 26 but I will tell you I wish I went to college down here versus Boston. I would have gotten laid a HELL of a lot more

I work in the Oil and gas industry as well. Work for the largest supplier of HCL in the US. I also lived in Houston last year for about 6 months for work. I loved it when it was snowing back home and I was on my bike in TX, but had a hard time getting used to the heat and humidity in Houston once the summer hit.

Welcome to the great state of Texas! I'm a Yankee transplant myself...been here since 1998. I live in Lewisville, so I know the roads (and drivers) that you speak of! Another OBSERVATION (blackie) is that every pop is called Coke! Oh, and if a driver has their turn signal on, they're coming over whether you are there or not, because after all, they have their turn signal on, ya know? LOL! Hope to see you sometime down at Strokers- I work in the service department Mon-Fri, so come see me!

That's funny- I was pissed cuz the guys wouldn't just get on the phone instead of talking through me. The conversation would have probably been over within 2 minutes, LOL.

I got my Martin brother madusa's from ya'll in 2010 for my bike. At ROT Rick showed me how to modify them so they wouldn't drag. Thanks for the help & look forwards to making an appointment to let ya'll do the open primary work.
