X2. Just put one in and what a difference. All you need is a two wire ignition for a 39-64 Ford 8N tractor. I got mine at my local Atwood farm store. Anywhere you can find tractor or farm parts should carry the switch.:2thumbs:The best way to fix the p.o.s. wire plus switch is at tsc. it's a two prong switch for a 8n tractor. JJ has the number and I'm sure he will post it later. it actually fits around the coil without any grinding and covers the reamed out hole perfectly. it's under 10 bucks and only way to fix it properly.
Until you lose your keys!!! Mine kept falling out. I totally lost the first set and the second set fell out 3-4 times. That was enough to make me switch out the entire ignition. PIA trying to track down lost keys!!!:bangI used the relay. Nice to maintain the stock key and switch.
Just find a place that sells tractor parts n ask for an 8N ignition switch. You won't need any part numbers. Simple two wire switch. That would be great cause i looked on ebay for a new coil cover and couldn't find one.Usually there is 3 to 4 on there, but anyway that sounds like a simple fix i don't know JJ but i sure hope he reads this post don't want to sit around all Lobor Day weekend thanks for all the help guys.
Pics please? After I lost my first set of keys, I bought a spring-loaded belt clip with a key ring attached to it. I attach the belt clip to the rear cylinder plug wire. If the key comes out, it's still with you, dangling from the plug wire. Works great.

Here's the pic. Not that elegant, but effective. When removed, it has a double use when I clip it to my belt loop. I did just buy the tractor key just to see if it works -- 6 bucks on eBay.
I used the sportster switch also from Jake.Just install a sportster ignition switch. That's what I did and I haven't had any issuse with it since I installed it many years ago.
That's the switch that we all are replacing with the ford 8n switch.I used the sportster switch also from Jake.
