I won't be buying another Dog. I've been left stranded on the road twice by my brand new 2008 K-9 EFI before getting 2600 miles on it. I don't trust it and will be nervous any time I ride it in the future. Sad to say I made a bad choice buying this bike. I love the look but can't abide the reliability. I've made a few dumb discisions in my life, but buying another Big Dog won't happen again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I've had more than my own fair share of problems and issues. My solution is kind of two fold.

1.) Have a Harley in the garage too.
2.) Be willing to do some of the wrenching yourself.

I find Jwolfs statement to very true and kinda ironic.

Years ago people would have said a similar thing about a HD, but have a Honda in the garage for when the HD broke down...

Oh how things have changed... now the BDM is on the low end, and the HD's are tried and true.

I would say NO!

:bang: I have had to many issues with the bike. I love the look and it rode nice for a short while but seems to be in the shop more often than riding. I'll blame a little on the place that services my bike not very good services and seems I got to take it right back in because they forgot something(I take it there only because it's the only BDM in town). I have replaced the speedo 5 times and still gets condesation in it no reason for that cheap part on a 30k bike (get it right). The whole entire clutch went out a month after warranty. Steve Garner the sales rep here on the east said BDM would take care of it under warranty since it was such a major malfunction so early...that was not correct. When they put the clutch in and test drove it the belt broke. Of course now another couple hundred added on to the bill ( remember this is happening with low mileage). Then I go pick it up drive it home, thank god I went str8 home. Cause the next time I went to start it to go for a ride it doesn't start. You almost want to believe the place that services my bike in Raleigh is sabotaging my bike or the bike is that bad. Now I got to figure out is it the battery or the starter. Guys I want to love my Mastiff I really do. I love the look and the ride when riding it but for the cost of this bike it shouldn't have this many issues with little mileage. It makes you think about a Metric bike....LOL... I can only laugh about it now but still sucks draining funds that rather be modifing with!

All-Bite, out of Respect to the forum Members, the first post should always be an Intro in the Intrduction thread.

Fogging issue? No one fogs over more than we do up here, and my solution is to not look at the speedo. Why look, speeding is speeding.

For some, the only answer is to get a metric.

I have 3 american bikes, 3 metrics and a hybrid atv in the garage. All makes have issues.

Perceptions are not always what they seem.

I wouldn't buy another one at this point in time. If they were to rectify all of the electrical demons and ditch the EHC I would consider a new one. Love the look and love the ride when its not down/in the shop. I am not new to owning motorcycles/toys/hot rods and have had my share of problems with some. Unfortunately this one is the most untrustworthy of anything I have owned and it bothers me that I always have that uneasy feeling, is it gonna start/run, or am I going to be stranded..
I know and have been told on here, "its a hot rod motorcycle" not a stock HD. Yea I know that! But it can be a fairly reliable one! It is mass produced by a company that should have done the R & D, I didn't build it in my back yard!

I say yes. Maybe the 04's didn't have as many probs as the newer models. But I don't have many miles on mine either.
I looked at the American Ironhorse too as they were made here in Tx. It really came down to the looks of the Dog. Boy am I glad I didn't get the AI since they are out of bizness now I hear.

I would buy another BD in a heart beat!

This sums it up from slowrower.

I like mine so much I will be getting a 2009 or 2010 model.

As for proprietary parts that's how BDM separates themselves from the competition and offers added value. They look good, they are quite comfortable, very reliable and dam easy to work on.

I know too dam many people that have had bikes built and paid way more and got a piece of shit, had major problems getting it registered and forget insurance.

I like mine and will get another not because it looks cool, sounds cool, draws attention - I didn't buy it to satisfy an ego - I wanted something better than my HD that was easier to maintain, rode better and would not have problems and for me this was and still is it.

Motorcycles especially these are about as simple as it gets including the EHC, wiring and all. Wanna see complex, go stick your head under the hood of a modern auto or worse an expensive modern auto there is enough shit there to build a fleet of scooters.

This is not rocket science, the engineers that design, build and test motorcycles go to the same dam schools which makes the difference in parts and materials minimal at best.

As for service, there are plenty of good wrenches out there or RTFM and do it your self it doesn't get much easier.

If you drive like shit, modify it beyond its intended use, ignore the maintenance - then the expect shit to happen and stop blaming someone else and look in the mirror.

BD has sold at least 25,000 bikes - add up the folks here with problems and were looking some tiny .0X % of the total which is insignificant and can be attributed to operator error.

You want a standard production bike get and HD, Victory are whatever floats your boat. Ride them all and pick what feels right for you .. its your money just remember you can have just as much of a problem and a hell of alot more than you did with your BD.

I bet if you posed the question "would you buy another XXX" on a Victory, HD or any brand specific forum you would get far more NFW responses.

Based on the small sample size that responded to the buy again question I would say BDM comes out a winner hands down in terms of brand loyalty. If you can get 3/4's of existing buyers to return your doing a dam good job.

I did'nt buy this bike to be like every one else. All my bikes befor where HD/AMF and you had to work on them all the time but when i was ridding i did'nt care.So the ones that are not happy with their BD sell them and buy a HD or victory don't for get BD is only 15 years old how long has HD been around.:choppersmiley:
