Ebay can be a Goldmine and a Godsend to *Those who do the research, homework, background work and in person communication* to the seller that they want to do business with.
VIN # verification, seller background, lots & LOTS of Close -Up Pictures and details when you ask the seller -as well as personal communication and up front references that you look into, investigate and have a good first hand knowledge & feeling about.
Buying a motorcycle across state lines and at distances needed to reach by plane(or long ride) is always chancy-but the sellers with lots of good solid feedback(Private Sellers) are usually trustworthy and easily reachable and will exchange info and other details that make the BUYER feel confident that the deal is as represented.
Nothing beats a close up personal inspection ~ and I have had people drive here from many miles away to see & BUY the items I sell and are In The Shop & Open to their inquiries.
Someone's earlier post mentioned "Family in Law Enforcement" as a benefit.
Well I'll give you my take on that : Bad Guys aren't afraid to rip off cops.
Try and chase a scumbag outta state who ripped you off : good luck -shoot em twice more for me

.
It's a game of chance and a crapshoot to send someone lotsa $$$$$$$ for a motorcycle you haven't ridden, heard Run,Seen in person or Know the seller enough to NOT worry about sending $$$$$ far away outta state and hoping the deal will work out in your favor.*IF* you are blessed and fortunate enough to be able to buy outta state and ship the bike back to wherever you are-Plane Fare isn't much more to Go SEE the bike and make sure it's as described and runs as promised -then deal in a Bank Check from YOUR Bank and you have at least a little chance of recourse in terms of collecting a refund if the deal goes sour for you & the seller trys to Fuck you.
Plane fare is cheap insurance and you cant put a price on "Peace of Mind" when purchasing a motorcycle outta state that has to be shipped back to you a far distance. GO SEE IT-Pay with certified bank Funds and use a reputable Insured & Bonded Shipper to get it back home.
