Hey guys,
Im new to big dog ownership here. Got an 04 chopper with a small issue, for now, lol.
When I got o start the bike it wont turnover all the time- sometimes does and starts, sometimes cranks 1-2 times, sometimes not at all.
When it dies it kills power to bike and only way to reset it is to turn off ignition - reset computer - reset run button and try again.
Things so far
Tried new battery but still maybe not big enough - was 220cca when i bought one new they gave me 270cca.
Bike was supposed to have new starter installed when I bought it- had same issue with "old starter"
Shop replaced key switch.
I replaced the button and circuits because they were mushy and I was playing a game to get around that.
Now what ive noticed is when I hit start the voltage drop is a lot! falls until it starts or computer dies (my guess is computer dies under 8.5 volts)
I can feel compression release working. Bike shouldn't be that hard to turnover.
So-
with new battery (even 270cca) -
a new starter (i assume)
new hand control switches installed
Why such voltage drop at start?
Not enough CCA?? too much battery draw
Defective starter??
Or, i read about bad voltage regulator? as it may be responsible for load control???
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam
