I was hoping to get back my bike for the week-end, didn't happen. The dealer said they are not sure what is causing the problem (no power at the spark plugs) they are waiting a call back from Big Dog. They said they left a couple massage (does take so long for big dog to contact back a dealer?). I think nobody a the dealer have deal with an X wedge engine yet and that make me a little bit nervous.
You guys enjoy your week-end and drive safely

If it's electrical, its not the motor. Assuming you have battery power (lights, fuel pump pressurizes) then you trace it back. Plug wires, connections, ECU. Check for a short. Sounds like a lazy tech.

yep you are right, i was thinking the same thing. Everything else is working so ECU or run and off switch

Sp why aren't you talking direct to S&S, the manufacturer of this engine?

Can u do that? I didn't know. The dealer is try to contact Big Dog. May they need to go trough them first for a warranty reason. I just don't understand why big dog haven't call them back yet. The dealer tried to contact the main factory since wed. or thursday (at least that's what they are telling me).

I talk to the dealer yesterday and they still haven't got any call back from BDM? It's already 10 days, is that normal?
Also there are rumors out there saying that BD may go out of business. Anybody know anything?

^^^ you can't do a "seat of the pants" and get any kind of accurate hp numbers...impossible.

Unless you know exactly who your dealing with I WOULD NOT trust any dealer performing a dyno test. Dyno numbers can be "fudged" with so bad it isn't even funny, best advice to guys that own these types of bikes:

Stay OFF the dyno's, ride the bike as is...because those dudes your dealing with are ALL trying to sell you parts/equipment that in most cases won't improve your numbers. If you are one of the dummies that believe alot of the hype, then they'll give you the "well if you added this I think we could squeeze another 5 hp or so outta her...and the cycle continues!!

I'd call BDM myself if I were you. Who knows what you might find out on your own.

Bought a new 2009 Big Dog Wolf, and after breakin, put it on the dyno. To my surprise, the 121CI X-Wedge it only put out 79 HP and 97 Torque. My old 117 Evo motor beats the crap out of this! Underwhelmed with the results, I proceeded to make some changes to gain performance. Added the 548 performance cams, Vance & Hines LD exhaust, Adjustable ECM and finally, ported the heads from 87cfm to 134cfm. After all changes, had the ECM tuned by an S&S tech. End results after changes were worse! 74HP and 92 Torque. I love this bike, but struggling with the motor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You state nothing of having the compression bumped up. You had the heads ported but did you increase your compression? With all the work you have done you should have your comp at a good streetable 10.25:1 and still be able to run 93 octane. Also, the guy that is tunning it, has he adjusted the timing at all? It may need to be advanced slightly.

So finally BDM and dealer got to talk and they found out that the problem is a crank shaft sensor, it took more than two weeks to find out what was wrong. The problem now is that the sensor is on back order and BDM doesn't know how long is gonna take before they deliver it. What the f...!!!

I am Stroker Doug AKA-dougsspeed--I have been wrenchin on S&S motors and selling parts for the better part of 22 years..I must say that the X-Motor is a great concept motor. But I have to agree with Rick, This motors HP & Torque numbers are quite a bit low.
I have had the blessing of being taught by Keith Ruxton,....Basic Motor 101...You should be able to make 1 HP per CI...or more...and still fall under EPA and Emissions...I will be doing some research into why the HP and Torque are so low..I do agree with you Rick..and seeing you used 2 different dyno's and came up with the same #s...Well thats what your motor is putting out...My Question is this to start with...Motor math 101--How do I get the Cranking Compression Number from a 121 X-Motor when the Auto Decompression's will not allow me to get a #.....Yes I trust S&S...But I am a I wana see it for myself wrench...Now we can understand and have a baseline to start the race math with...Stroker Doug

I spoke to a S&S tech about 3 months ago concerning the horsepower #'s.
They had dyno'ed a wolf and recorded #'s about 10% higher than Rick the topic starter. Could be an altitude variance. The 2009 Wolf doesn't have compression relief cams, the 2010 does. S&S replaced my cams with the updated version when they repaired it. I'll find out tomorrow if there is a difference when I pick up my bike(48 days without). They also stated there is a significant amount of horsepower to be gained by changing the ECM. It will cost you your BDM warranty. Perhaps Moots of Bourget's can help Rick out. I'm considering the ECM and S&S suggested I have him tune it.
Any update with the compression release cams? I have the 2009 without compression release, and it starts hard most of the time. It feels like the starter can't even make the first spin.

My recently repaired 121X Wedge has the updated cams. No real performance
felt, but it starts effortlessly. With the old cams the starter would barely turn the motor over when cold. IMO it's worth the upgrade to spare the starter and battery.

The mid-year suppliments went out to dealers, and there are a few X-Wedge parts. They now list a Big Bore kit that bumps it up to 128ci, and they have new 569 performance cams that works with all of the X-Wedge motors. The cam requires the new "unlocked" ECU. It is likely that S&S already has a base map for all of the configurations. At a minimum, I'm doing the cams this Spring to get the old non-compression release cams out, and have the upgrade at the same time. I'll be interested to see what the big bore kit costs installed, and if anyone has success with it.

Nice numbers...

Anyone change out their ECU yet to and open version from S&S?
