Wireplus harness

Energy One

Well the harness finally arrived today fellas - about time too.

I was gonna take some pics but I don't think they will enlighten anybody too much - just a bunch of wires really although the polished unit looks quite nice. I can get a pic of that when its on the bike.

There is a full on booklet with it for install, which looks pretty comprehensive. I should think anybody who has an idea about electrics should be able to cope with this themselves.

I'll take it down to Andy tomorrow so hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel at last. Hopefully there will be light at either end of the bike too!

Good, been waiting for this mod to come to a head. Did your guy have the controls welded up and remachined yet? I was wondering how that turned out and if he got some micro switches yet for the handlebars?

he's got the switches - small round unmarked stainless switches. I don't know if he has done the welding work yet but I think he's waiting on the harness so that he knows exactly what he's looking at.

I'll see him tomorrow and may know more then but as I said I don't think he's started the work yet.

Once its done I'll get plenty of pics - if you want pics of anything specific, or any specific information on the details let me know and I'll do my best.

Lee, I am very interested in that harness. I'll be tearing my bike down starting next week and will need to have it finished, and all bugs worked out (if any) by the time biketoberfest rolls around. I would rather buy a nice harness setup, but am leary and might just buy an extended HD harness from my Supplier. I'd like to see some pics if you do not mind taking them.

ok Jake and Al here you go - I don't know how much these will tell you but then I don't know anything about electrics and you two do.

Lee -- thanks for posting this. This is the version I'm looking to put in during tear-down this winter. Looks to have enough details for me to put it in without any problems.

Appears from the diagram, that the turn signal will not be enabled as running lights...is that what you understand?

Cheers,

you're right Chacha but I have the European harness, which will be different in that regard to what you would get. In the UK our turn signals are supposed to be separate, and should be orange. I already got the new lights for the bike.

That is what I was also wondering is if we could keep the BDM park/brake/turn combo light setup without having to add a separate brake light. Other than that it looks great!

What I would really like to know is..

If you get the replacement EHC (low voltage) version that keeps your BDM controls the way they are... where I know you still are reling on a relay style board to work like an EHC.. but can you later just upgrade to the better full voltage version without re-doing all the wiring or with just some small changes to the metal box?????

I think you can Jake - as I said mine is the European version of the harness. You will need to do something with your switches with this system though. I'm having micro switches put into mine.

Gas - I think the problem with that might be that the stock BDM wires are thinner because they only have to handle 5 volts.

But doesn't he offer a setup to keep the bdm switches?

Does he offer a wiring that plus into the bdm switches? just to delay the new handle bars or micro switch thing you're doing.

I think they might do but you still need an EHC type unit, albeit it will be a wireplus unit, which is presumably superior to the BDM unit - kind of a half way house mod I suppose. Having said that there is still a unit with this as you can see in the pics - not sure what it is though.

Alhall has spoken to Marlon and knows a lot more about this than I do.

congrats on your new harness Lee  good post.....looking forward to your response on it once you get it installed! reppy coming up

When I talked to Marlon, the impression I got is that in addition to the standard harness you would be purchasing additional processor for the big dog hand controls. I never really asked if down the road could I dump that portion if I changed hand controls. It also didn't sound to cheap as he would have to special make the processor and he also stated it probably too would eventually fail because a processor type unit does not belong on this type of bike.

Yeah Al.. you and I takled about it... but if you were in riding season it may be faster to go with the processor and BDM controls, then later in the down season, do the controls swap and the simple box like Lee. I would hope this would be an option.
