Wireplus harness

Thats what the little processor would do for the hand controls lee it would step the voltage down along with change over to a positive ground system for the hand controls only.

So at that point the wiring would be over kill being its setup for full voltage... at least till you went to some other non-bdm controls, ditched the little processor and went to the good setup.

Right?

Andy got in touch today - he has started on the bike. He said he was led to believe the wireplus harness was BDM specific but that it certainly is not. Might take longer than he first thought :bang:

WP is working on the BDM specific unit, the off the shelf set up is for a softail, still, the installation is straight forward and works well and eliminates about 13 of those tiny IST connectors. The only small wires that will remain will be the wiring for the handlebar controls. I worked with Marlon and Rick from WP on a wiring conversion on a 2007 model BDM and it only took a couple of hours to install. The only thing that was different was how the switches worked. The switch functions toggled (hit the run button once to activate run function and hit the run button again to turn it off). When the get the processor developed, the switch functions will work just like they do on the bikes now.

Lee, correct, that WP182 harness is just a "custom bike" universal harness/controller that has enough controls built in (4 breakers including compression releases) to cover all the BDM electronics with the BDM buttons changed out to momentary "switches".

I was going to order the WP182 harness the other day, but after talking with Marlon, I am going for the BDM specific module that will allow me to plug the BDM contols into it and keep them and not have to weld up my controls and install switches.

More to come next week...

...with a COMPLETE how-to - "EHC elimination, Ditch the Bitch" - with the NEW Wire-Plus Module, soon!!!!:zwhistle: :D

thanks for the replies gents

DV - I'm changing to micro switches in my controls so presumably even those wires will be changed on mine?

Jake - so yours will keep the stock controls and switches but still have the EHC eliminated? that sounds good - I wonder why Marlon didn't mention that when I ordered mine.

what I would like to know is will this new system be able to be updated if need be. like if they tweaked the software, could we download it from their website and upload a new firmware to the controller.

Dogvet,
How does a EFI bike fit into the picture with these harnesses that WP is working on? Are they the same harness for both carb and EFI bikes?

Bdmridgeback,
Good to see you are making some headway here. Hope to follow suit myself...

well the bike is all done at last. Going to pick it up on Saturday. Cost a fuckin fortune but what can you do. I'll get some pics of anything interesting when I get it back.

Andy took it for a test ride and everything is working good - except the HID bulb so he put a normal one in - Jake - would you have expected that?

Are you talking about the harness that Dogvet referred to?

Good to hear it is coming to a close Lee.......I know Saturday can not come fast enough now..
Can't wait for the full report on how it does..

Yes and no. This is the BDM Module and harness he was talking about, but it is not specific to BDM and takes quite a bit of changes to install. The BDM specific "Plug in" module for the hand controls that I was going to get, will not be available for probably a couple months or so. It WILL BE a processor driven module, so I passed on it. I wanted a solid state module to replace my EHC so I went with the WP182 and the WP166 and I'll be keeping the factory hand control switches but they will work a bit different as Dogvet stated.

Here are some pics of the WP182 Module only, no harness, and the WP166, latching module:

This is the dual latching module used for the factory hand controls to do the run/start and high/low beam functions:

got a couple of questions, sort of.

doesnt look like it would take much to remove the run/start, solenoid feed and compression releases from the ehc.

looks like it would just take a feed to a circuit breaker to a run/start toggle to a starter relay. (S&S 51-1115)

also with an after market ignition, just need a feed to a circuit breaker to power the ign then wire to coil and tach.

headlight can be wired, feed, circuit breaker, 3 point toggle to light.

ehc would just run your turn signals and brake lights.

sound feasible?
