wire plus died

I still have a brand new WP set up in a box on the bench. I need to check what the part number is on it. I haven't had any trouble with my EHC....yet (18,000 miles). I'm not sure if I want to install the WP.

Where would the fuse be located? I would like to check that. Also how would I check my voltage regulator? Personally I would like to check that stuff out just to make sure those aren't causing the problem. But I do believe wp is trying to save their own ass, and Instead of trying to address the potential problems with their switch control modules. Their solution is just buy a " New and improved one" from us, just wait a few months. I do need to get my bike going, but want to make sure everything is working nsync, voltage regulator, fuse not blown etc.

Mm k9 if u want to sell me the switch control module, I will definitely buy it. Or maybe we can work something out on the whole system if you're not willing to part it out.

I would not be happy with that answer either. A kit that I paid that much money for turns out to be faulty from no fault of mine that I am supposed to pay for gain out of my own pocket does not sit well with me. If they even said there were problems they should at the very least give those affected some discount. Ridiculous that you are forced to pay full price for another one that was in fact supposed to fix the initial problem to begin with.

If you have an ignition switch relay to maintain the original Big Dog Key switch, you should have a 30 amp fuse shown below. I put my fuse just to the right of the battery but each individual may route wires differently. Your 06 is not going to look like my 08 under the seat. Search the forum for testing your voltage regulator. If you were able to run you Big Dog, you could take battery voltage at rest, idle and a few thousand rpms to check your VR. But, it doesn't sound like your bike can run right now. So, do a search.

:confused:Something doesn't make sense to me. First, I have a 3014 and it has a fuse to protect it. Second, our charging system from the alternator and voltage regulator charges our battery. The capacity of our charging system shouldn't have anything to do with WP unless the voltage is high out of specification. Just my opinion and don't understand how the output of our charging system could affect the WP components.
I don’t understand either.

You don’t push current through an electrical component, it is drawn through by the load connected. So the faulty module cannot handle the load (current) that is being pulled through it. Now if the voltage is too high (like with a bad regulator) then it will most likely fry all electronics connected to the high voltage (unless you have a fuse).

I think the Wire Plus people are blowing smoke to throw off the blame onto anyone else.

Big Dogs use a standard Harley compatible regulator (and stator for that matter). As long as the regulator is good and you have a fuse, there should be no problems.
:iagree:

What WP is saying is bullshit! :spank:

I've seen a handful of them go down in a similar manner, usually smoke under the seat, horn blowing, etc. One of my buddies is on his 3rd.

Yup, only messed with a couple of these WP piles of...well we will not go there...and they were both burned up. Lady I talked to said same thing, out of warranty and nothing they can do to help other than to be put on a waiting list.

EHC Wire Plus 374

Sorry to hear about your EHC, but I have got a New WP 374 that I just got back from Wire Plus. I dont know if it'll work on your applicatioin, but it is for a buddy of mine. He has an 06 Ridgeback. He bought it from Wire Plus a few months ago. I had them check it to make sure it worked properly, and Kendra sent it back and they approved it.
The owner of the bike had a Mechanic start the install but after 3 months he finally gave up. I now have the bike and am selling the unit for him since I am installing the New Big Dog System.
I have New Modules, Key Switch, Wiring Diagram and a new Goodie pack. which is the compplete wiring kit.
He wants $400. for he system. Kendra wrote on the receipt that the unit works fine. The installer didn't know what he was doing and got in over his head so he told the owner to take it womewhere else. I just wanted to MAKE SURE IT WORKS before I sold it....
I have pics of everything.. 979-709-2073
Thanks, Henry Kindle

Guys u know what I don't have a fuse attached to my wire plus that's linked to my positive wires. I looked and looked and can't find a fuse linked to the positive wires. Anyone have anything to add?

Yes, add a inline fuse. I know it sounds like a smart ass answer but you have to have some protection. When I installed mine on my 07 Bulldog, I added an inline fuse.

Weird...I have a 40 amp to the Voltage regulator that you can see in my picture just to the right of the ignition module and the 30 amp spade just forward and right of the Positive terminal of the battery. I put it there for access. Maybe someone put it in a spot hidden from view and access which is just crazy. Or, you need to install one.

I think I'll see if I just have to get it updated before I do anything. I like having it around just in case my EHC dies. I hope you get yours fixed fast.

Okay I got some questions, the inline fuse you're talking about is the 173-000039-00 kit? Also is it being hooked up between the voltage regulator and battery? Do I have to remove the circuit breaker and replace it with this kit?
