Fuck!! Just got the bike back rode it for a day, then yesterday rode it to church and it shut off and smoke and sizzle came from under the seat. I thought the bike was on fire!! I jumped off snatched the seat off and smoke cleared pulled the battery out and found the problem. The control module was fried, it smelled burnt and some oily residue was leaking from it. I have the wire plus retro kit for my 06 k9 and the module part number is 13014. I called them and they said they have an updated unit 13014a but it's a 5 week wait....fuck!! The lady said mines isn't under warranty anymore, and that a short somewhere probably caused it. But if there is a waiting list and a updated version I believe these modules could be just faulty and should be replaced free. Can someone chime in or know of where I can get one sooner? Please feel free to comment.

I've felt your pain...

I had a similar problem with mine and needed replacement/service last summer. At that time it was a 6 week wait. So frustrating cause that's damn near my whole riding season. I ended up calling them 2-3x week to find out where things were at, if there were any other options available. In the end, I waited 2.5 weeks for it. Not sure if the squeaky wheel got the grease or I just lucked out. I was thankful either way and happy to get back on the road. Best of luck with them!

Call a shop that regularly deals with them.I know of at least one person that was told a 5 week wait he had a dealer who had placed several orders call and the module was in within 2 days.

I am currently suffering from a wireplus failure as well. My switch module overheated, pic attached. My unit just arrive to me at the beginning of Jan this year. When I called wireplus they asked no questions. Told me to send it back and if faulty they would send me a new one in a couple of weeks. My was under warranty and she said warranty replacements are built before new orders.
Mine wireplus system was installed early Feb.

By them not asking me any questions, I got the feeling they have been having a run of issues lately. Mine just arrive to their location this past Tuesday (July 9th). I have not heard from them yet.

I have no idea when the wire plus was put on my bike, it was already on when I bought my bike last July. I can't get intouch with the guy that sold me the bike, so I have no idea. All she basically said that the new ones have an a at the end of the model number. So I guess that's how they judge their warranties. I really don't want my bike down for that long though, I just got it out the shop from all that motor work I had done...only 2 days ago.

Had to replace power and control module. Soon as I described the symptoms they knew about the issue. They replaced the power module under warwnty and gave me half off the control module. Not completly happy but better than nothing.

I am not impressed with them at all.

Apparently they had some problems with the QC person and she is no longer there. I just bought a switch module for half off cause I had no power from the pin on the module that powers the coil. If you bitch enough they will cut you half off if outta warranty. I snapped off the freakin timing stud for the ignition module in the nose one and had to rethread the hole but I rode it all day yesterday without a problem. Hopefully this module lasts. It's better then that old ehc

I ordered my control module about 3 weeks ago and they sent it 3 days ago. I didn't get any warranty offered and had to pay full price. They helped me diagnose the problem over the phone and found out it was the switch control module not sending the signal to te coil.

I went through the same thing with them,, fried control module , out of warranty, and I think I waited either 5 or 6 weeks to get a replacement,,, back order ,, back order,,, back order. I was kind of ticked because mine has not been riden that much for the module to frie itself. I am like you I think they should replace them or at least warranty them better. Too many of them have fried for the consumer to have to replace them and then have to wait for them to in reality make you one when they take a notion. Like everything else they don't make them to last very long, if they did the warranty would be better. :bang:

I am trying to figure out how old these units are that you guys are having dramas with.

I install my WP in August September last year with no issues...............YET.

It is supposed to be one of the new "Upgraded" ones.
And it is just the swithch module not the other wiz bang thingy?

Just got a call from the wire plus tech today, she basically said that the original switch control modules couldn't handle to output of our charging systems. The new beefier ones can. She also said my wire plus system was made August 2010. But I still believe we shouldn't have to replace these things soo quickly, $250 every couple of years is bullshit! Especially considering home much the complete system is to buy and install. I believe everyone with and less than sturdy wp system should get replacement modules sent for free in exchange of their old ones, even if the original ones still work. That way u can ride knowing u have an superior product and not a potential defect or inferior one. Plus look at the Damn wait on these things, u would think they have some on standby considering the reoccurring problems with the original. Plus the 1 year warranty is not long enough. Excuse my ranting but I just want things to do what they're supposed to do.

Ooh by the way, very nice and polite ladys. The service sales woman and the tech. My issue is more so with the powers that be, those ones that decide warranties and how fast we can get replacements. Long story short keep the customers happy and the customers will keep your business prospering.

wow am I counting 7 failures in this thread on WP kits?

I thought these kits had been doing much better than this.

I wold agree that one would think so. Maybe the demons of the WP are starting to take shape like some of the demons of the EHC. Interesting item on the switch module not being able to handle to current on our systems. Hopefully it is not a big trend getting ready to occur with another electronic issue that so many have tried to improve over the original.

:confused:Something doesn't make sense to me. First, I have a 3014 and it has a fuse to protect it. Second, our charging system from the alternator and voltage regulator charges our battery. The capacity of our charging system shouldn't have anything to do with WP unless the voltage is high out of specification. Just my opinion and don't understand how the output of our charging system could affect the WP components.

I don’t understand either.

You don’t push current through an electrical component, it is drawn through by the load connected. So the faulty module cannot handle the load (current) that is being pulled through it. Now if the voltage is too high (like with a bad regulator) then it will most likely fry all electronics connected to the high voltage (unless you have a fuse).

I think the Wire Plus people are blowing smoke to throw off the blame onto anyone else.

Big Dogs use a standard Harley compatible regulator (and stator for that matter). As long as the regulator is good and you have a fuse, there should be no problems.
