If you read some of the issues with Avon you just may consider Metzler. I know I will not be buying any more Avons.

Ditto on the Metzeler. The last Avon I purchased for the rear lasted about 2K miles and the rubber down the centerline of the rear tire was gone. I may get on the throttle and an occasional spin out, but never do I just sit and burn the tire. The Metzler I'm running now is just as it should be. A couple of thousand miles and very little wear.

What tire are you running? I'm running a 300 and have about 1/16 clearance. Not much, but no issues.

I've only used Avon tires and never an issue. Typically get about 11k miles on the rear....
It must be that "mile high" air that preserves that Avon for you. Before they changed over to their new and improved model, they made a damn good tire. Someone at Avon must have figured out how to save a bunch of money short term by using a softer rubber and firing the quality control guy.

Or, the Venoms were getting exceptional mileage and they needed increased sales by the Cobras wearing out so quick. Whichever, they've screwed up a good thing.

I'm putting a Michelin Commander II on the front today because of the groove splitting issue. I guess I'll go with Metzeler on the back when the Cobra gives up.

I went back to Dunlop after 20 years of using Avon. The Dunlop tires seem to be holding up pretty well, besides there made in the U.S. We should be trying to support U.S products anyway......shouldn't we?
I've also read that Metzler have factories in both Germany and Brazil, the tires manufactured in Brazil have had the same issues as the Avon Cobra.

I thought only Avon and Metzler made a 300 tire?
I know several have had issues with the Avons, so guess I should consider myself lucky!

Im running Dunlop elite IIIs on front and rear. Used them on my Springer and they performed great and lasted 15000 miles

I'd mount-up a used condom from a butt-pirate before I'd use another Avon.

Have Metzs on the Bulldog and been great, 32K miles with 2 fronts and 3 rears.

GTX came with Avon, 8K miles and cracks and bad wear -- switched over to Metzs.

Got Dunlaps on the Nightrain. Would be great if Dunlap made a 300 -- I stay with the same make tires on a vehicle.

had Avon and tire didn't last for long.
Switched to Metzeler, which I have on both bikes and would buy them again.

I had avon's on my everyday custom and hated them. I put around a year on my bike and they where wore out. I changed over to the Metzeler and love them. I think they handle better than the avon's. Just my 2 cents worth.

My Avons have been good to me. With any tire you have to be serious with the tire pressures I have 20k on my rear avon and still not ready to change over to my new cobra thats on standby.

Metzler is also much better on wet roads!
Got dumped on last Sunday, 2" of rain on the road, wasn't going my usual 90mph but blasted right through the rain riding like a normal person with no problem.
By the way, rear Dunlop is by no means new, it's just about down to the wearbars.

We all bragged on the old Avons, but you're in for a surprise when you change over to your new cobra. I think I got a couple thousand miles outa mine before the center of the tire woreout
