What Jets Do You Run?

BadBrad

2005 Pitbull
I know there are a lot of different factors for running different jets. After having my Dog just over 6 months, I finally read enough threads on this site to figure out I was running too lean and corrected the problem with re-jetting. If we get enough replies, I'll take all the information and attempt to make a "Guideline Chart" to use for getting the right jet combination for new users and maybe a few old. List anything you feel may be a factor for using the jets you have, e.g. altitude (it would be nice for all to list that), exhaust type, breather (if not stock), motor modifications, etc.

I'll lead off: 2005 Pitbull, 117ci, 0 - 200 ft above sea level, 78 main, 33 intermediate, VH BR 2x2 pipes, runs great!

I guess I asked for that!:lol:One thing about this site, you have to have a sense of humor. For those that are just reading this thread, take a minute to give some feedback. If you're like me, you can't afford to have a shop do all your repairs, especially if it's out of warrenty. Of course, I didn't know until last week when I changed my jets what I actually had in there. That "cough/spit/hic-up" at 70 mph was driving me crazy. Thanks Gas Man and all the others that have written the "How-To's" on this forum. It sure took the fear out of doing the work myself.

88? Your gas mileage must suck. I had a big main in after the dyno work. Ran great but got 80 miles per tank. I dropped it back to a 82 I think, still runs great, but get 120 per tank. Just my 2 cents.

So the carb how to took care of you?

Hey Gas, without a doubt, the carb "how to" got me through it without any parts left over. The numerous threads about carb problems let me know that the intermediate and main kind of "swap up" at 2750 rpm and if you get a "cough" around that rpm, then the intermediate should be a little higher. Everything I read was right on the money and with these "how to's" I may never have to take my bike to a shop again. Not if I can help it. Your quote "why pay somebody else to fuck up your bike" is a favorite of mine. Thanks again.

Just a note: Raising your intermediate to correct a problem at 3000 rpm will fuck all your regular riding as you spend most of your time in the intermediate. An S&S carb has an air bleed that is used to delay the main jet coming on to correct your situation. Go to a larger airbleed.

Ray, Did you finally get dried out? I went from a 76/31 to a 78/33. That's the first I've heard about changing the air bleed to correct a problem on the carb. Up till now, all the threads I read where carbs were "spitting/coughing" at approx. 70 mph was due to the intermediate not being big enough. Right now, it's running great! I'll have to read up some more on the S&S. Thanks for the info.
