What is your bike worth?

I think one of the reasons BD's are not holding value is the fact that the factory is gone, hence the casual uninformed buyer assumes parts and support are no longer available. So there's one hit. For another, if you invested 20 g's into extras, you'll never get that back due to the fact that it is now "customized" to your tastes, not the prospective buyer's.
I have also dumped some major $$$ onto mine, and am aware of the fact that just because I have the bike the way I want it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to appeal to anybody else. As a matter of fact, the further you customize a bike, (boat, car, etc.), the narrower the resale market becomes.
If I were considering selling, I would take these facts into account, and probably be prepared to take a hit. You're probably better off keeping it if you can.
Good luck.

There are way to many strikes against us

1. Our dogs are getting older every day
2. it's a Buyers Market
3. BD is Out of Business

This is all against us and the buyers know it so BOHICA

I sold a lot of my toys last year: 3 bikes, 1 boat, Z/28, etc. To put it bluntly, I took a ass whipping. On top of the hit I took, I was constantly having low lifes trying to rip me off.

To put your bike in perspective, my buddy bought his very low mileage '08 K9 with lots of extras and upgraded paint from a member on this forum in the spring of 2010 for $18,500. The bike was perfect in every way, and the seller took a major loss with the bike being only 2 years old at the time with almost no miles on it.

Sorry about the family needs, best of luck in the sell.

There is logic to the idea of "Trading one for one". Since every thing has gone down in value, from cars to houses, barter can become a solution, the new norm. I've got something you want.....what do you have?

Finding cancer treatment for a custom chopper is far fetched but it does get you thinking out of the box.

Upgrades are fairly irrelevant when it comes to getting your money back. You will see probably if lucky 10% return on any upgrade. Bone stock 07 K9 will avg around 14-15 with upgrades no matter what they are I don't see anyone fetching >18k from a private sale. It would be rare to find someone willing to through down >18k and not have a dealership backing up the sale.

Most banks at least around here in PA wont loan money on a Big Dog since they are out of business, so that could be one reason. If you have the stock parts, maybe put them back on, sell the custom parts seperatly, i sure they would get quiet alot of interest.

I just read your ad on swap meet. I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. But you asked for opinions on value. I would agree and say 16-18k. If you didnt have all the upgrades you would be looking at more like 11-14k depending on condition. Just opinion from what i see them going for on average. Another idea could be a raffle. Its a good cause and a nice bike. Sell $50 tix and raffle it when you sell about 500. A local MC may be willing to help and you will probably do better. Id be in for a ticket for sure.
The raffle seems a good idea, I would buy some tickets too.
Good luck.

In most states raffles are considered gambling and are illegal except for charities and non-profits. Make sure you check your state laws so you don't get yourself in trouble.

If you check Kelly Blue Book & NADA you will see just how much Pro-streets & choppers have dropped. I think it sucks but that seems to be the way things are right now! It's a buyers market & not a sellers market right now for sure!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I may advertise it without the extras and sell them on Ebay and see how that works.

I was thinking about selling my pittbull after i just rebuilt it. really no need for 2 bikes but realized there was no way i would recoup the money after all the upgrades to the bike. I recently paid 14k for an 06 big bear sled and this was from a stealership

I sold mine 6 months after the April the company closed. Somebody made me an offer and it got me thinking. It seemed inevitable; normal depreciation along with the Company closing -- value could only go one way -- down and fast. Unfortunately I believe the BDM value won't level off until they hit 12K. I took my 17K added another 4k and bought a 1940 Knuckle. I'm all vintage now with 3 bikes. I lov'in it. My BD was sold to a fella in New Zeland
