I think one of the reasons BD's are not holding value is the fact that the factory is gone, hence the casual uninformed buyer assumes parts and support are no longer available. So there's one hit. For another, if you invested 20 g's into extras, you'll never get that back due to the fact that it is now "customized" to your tastes, not the prospective buyer's.
I have also dumped some major $$$ onto mine, and am aware of the fact that just because I have the bike the way I want it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to appeal to anybody else. As a matter of fact, the further you customize a bike, (boat, car, etc.), the narrower the resale market becomes.
If I were considering selling, I would take these facts into account, and probably be prepared to take a hit. You're probably better off keeping it if you can.
