What is the advantage of a pri.belt drive?

Open primary is dry, there for removing alot of friction, and increasing power slightly. Plus? there sweet sounding.... 
The Baker belt drive is great, not very noisy as in sounding like you have a super charger on your motor. It is easy to install, looks good and it is made specifically for BDM. It is pricey, but well worth it. I had mine chrome plated, to make the cleaning easier and in doing so my warranty was voided. All I had chromed was the outer parts, I will get the motor plate done next time I take it apart.
There are others out there that look cool, others on here have Karata Open Primaries that look and sound good. I decided to go with this one. That is just me.

aldog, i can answer cause i got one.... the answer is nope, very little or none at all. i just called baker and talked to them about that because i like the whine. they told me if i wanted whine, go buy a junk primary. they said it has to do with the machining. i went with theirs because they give you a 5 yr warranty.

I don't know if that answer from Baker would be correct :down: I got a Karata and it whines, and Karata has been around alot longer than Baker in the belt drive scene, so junk primary
..I once asked Jim from Karata if the whine sound was from my outboard bearing support goin bad, he said it was the belt and pulley making it, I noticed the BDL belt drive on my friends bike and the pulley has wider teeth than my Karata, might be one clue to the whine sound, also my belt was alot tighter/taut than his BDL....maybe Jim can explain it better, or just give him a call :2thumbs:

Thought I would chime in - I'm a big fan of Karata (have 2 sets) and would recommend it. Couple of advantages,
Choice of Belt Size
One piece back plate
Choice of Outer Bearing Support plate
For the newer models the starter is hidden/streamlined

Well said. I was just about to say the same thing. It has nothing to do with quality. I've been around blown motors all my life as my dad ran top fuel funny cars, alcohol funny cars and we have built blown street cars and they all whine. It was harder to hear on the FCs though

I agree, whining is no sign of quality. I simply wanted to know if they did whine or not. I like to hear the whine so if Baker doesn't, I know Karata does and I'll go with Karata. :2thumbs:
