What I found this morning....

This had to be the dumbest mechanic on the planet. The dealer should be held responsible. That seat assembly was not designed for that bike. I had to specify not only the year, the model, but also the frame. My 2-up seat fits like a glove and does not require mounting screws.

Sorry Dude. Hope you get restitution.

Wow, that sucks bro...I bought the pillion but my wife does not ride that much so It won't go on for awhile. I got the 3M paint protection film too but like Todd said, I don't think it would have helped. Keep us posted.

One more question I thought of at the gym. As I have yet to throw a leg over my bike until I get home from this hell hole, I will defer to the 08+ Pit owners for now. Is it possible to just remove that bracket and use the pillion with just the suction cups like everyone else does? My wife does not ride all the much and when she does it sure seems like a pain in the ass to screw shit in just to take a ride to the bar. Thoughts?

Wonder if the bracket(s) is to prevent the pussy pad from putting pressure on the spring seat. If the pad is riding up against the spring seat and the spring seat is moving up/down??? Dunno. Also wonder if anyone has made a 2 up/one piece custom seat for 08s and up or even if it is possible/if it makes sense. I like the look of the springer but like you mention it's not a simple process to put on/take off.

Now for another question. lol See what happens when you spend too much time a the gym. I guess this one is for TexasRaider....How does the passenger pillion work with the drop seat since I may end up going that route in the future? Does it still attach to the bracket?

To me, it seems the screws were mounted incorrectly from the factory that made the pad, looks like they put them on the outside instead of inside. I hope the dealer takes care of you, but had they sent it to me that way; I would have had the same problem as you. Unless you knew what it should have looked like properly assembled; it would have been missed.

Damn shame! On my 07 Buldog the pillion seat just attaches with 6 suction cups evenly spaced on either side front to back w/o brackets. The Pitbull seat probably has brackets to keep the seat from sliding forward interfering with to solo seat. Tough break dude.

Mr. Breeze rides an nunsprung normal looking solo seat on his new Pitbull. He could then use a suction pillion seat or maybe have a 2-up made.

Only one way to mount the thing is with the screws on the outside. Might have to put mine together jsut to see what's going on under there. Poor BDM egineering + bad install = :bang:???

Don't want to put the dealer out there just yet as he emailed me back today and told me he would take care of it. He is anxious to see the bike and try to see exactly what happened. Says he will send the whole bike to BD if he has to. I'm having an issue with the paint protector as well. I don't know what pieces came assembled with the pad and what was "installed." The set up looks correct... the screws just came loose with some falling out riding under the bracket and some extended out enough from the threads to create the abrasions. Either the screws vibrated out or they were never tightened properly. Will keep everyone posted.

That sucks wind bigtime! I've thought through a bracket like that before because i've lost two pads while out cruisin lookin for Tail. I've went back and found both of em. One was run over and cut and the other was just fine. If you've got a wife to jump on and hold the thing down thats fine but when your our trollin leavin the wife at home your screwed cause the cups come loose after a while. You gotta find the Tail quick, like at the first bar! That damn thing has some bugs to work out. Sorry to see your fender gouged up like that. It sounds like you've got a good dealer though so hang in there.

Seeing as my wife won't get on a motorcycle, I really don't know, but in looking at that pillion on BDM's website, the one that goes with the spring seat, it appears as if the pillion is designed to sort of fit over the top of the spring seat, so that the springs work fully and compress down and back up, staying beneath the pillion. (here is the pic)

Don't know as to why there would be metal brackets attached to the spring seat, as when it compresses, it seems like they would hit the rear fender?

Again, I'm no expert, but I would think that just a suction cup pillion pad would work in either the spring or drop application, and that is all that I would think ANYONE would recommend?!?!?!

As for the original post, I would be highly PISSED if this happened to me, and hold the dealer FULLY responsible, as any respectable dealer should shoulder the blame, and probably fire the installer! Lena (Fairless) I can only imagine how your Dad would respond if something like this happened at Strokers, but I do know he would make it right if it did.

Good luck man!

I posted this once before (see below)
luckily when i removed mine there was not that kind of damage.

the pillion pad on the 08 pitbull does have tabs that bolt to the fender. there are two that are tucked up under the solo seat.

in order to access these you have to remove the bolts on the front part of the solo seat

once removed you can rock the seat forward.

place a towel or something on the tank so as not to scuff the paint. remove the bolts on the pillion seat and pull off. the bolts along with some suction cups hold the pillion in place

once removed you can reinstall the bolts. be sure to use washers because if you dont the bolts will rub on the rear tire. the tabs are about 1/8" thick and the bolts will recess deeper if you dont use washers.
rock the solo seat back into place and reinstall the bolts.
