Well shit

Probably both would be in need of a service? I'd first spray with WD40 to cut the crunching. Brake clean next to wash it out. White lithium in a spray can to lube. WD40 is used to clean toilets. Try cleaning a toilet with lith. Meaning, its not WD and go. I'd use cling wrap, lith spray tip inside the joint, this fills the linkage without going around the other side kind of narrows down the full surface area being pressure lubed.

Edit:
You mean 3 points? If that's one of those ball type? Or closed cage types? I was thinking of closed type to pressure it. But if it's 3-foot lever pivot, that slides on a tube? That's more like remove shifter arm, wipe thick grease and a little paste mix of anti-seize gray or copper. Full anti is going to stick and dry down the road. A mix is what the meguyveer in me says to do to my bike.

more than likely it is the Heim joints (those little swivel thingies) at the ends of the shifter rod/linkage. would be good to clean them out with maybe some WD40 and then lube them with some light machine oil. don't put too much in them or they will attract sand/dirt and make a mess. make sure the ends are lined up with each other or they will bind when shifting.

When mine bound up like that I had to replace them. No problems since -- Pretty sure I got them from Wildsteedworx.com

I just took my shifter linkage out and polished the Heims on both ends. I noticed that both helms were a little too stiff so I lubed them with a little light machine oil, I worked both ends until they were free in movement. I wiped all the excess and reassembled. Put a new shinny SS lock nut on the front and anti seize on the back bolt and torque it to 12 inch pounds. All is well and I can find natural much easier than before. Don't 'know why but just seems like I can.
