Washington State Drivers Beware

Well, on my way home from work today, I decided to stop off at the local post office to mail some bills off and noticed a Washington State Patrol (WSP) who had this young lady pulled over in the parking lot. She was driving a Ford Focus with dark tinted windows. He was sitting in his cruiser writing her a citation when I pulled into the parking lot. He immediately zoomed in on me when I pulled in front of him and parked on the far side of the lot. He confronted me as soon as I stepped out of my car and asked for my license, registration and insurance with no explanation and told me to wait where I was. He went over to his cruiser and finished writing the young ladies citation and handed it over to her. This guy thought he had more revenue with me and said, you know what this is all about? I told him you must be looking at my tinted windows and he responded yep and you're illegal. Well, I stopped him in his tracks and said mine are legal and I told him where I got it done and showed him my certificate from the company that performed the service to my car. He was still very doubtful and started arguing the point and I decided to just shut it up and let him proceed. He asked me to open my door and he pulled out this hand held window tint measuring computer and I measured legal. Just for the record if driving in our state and you get pulled over, the illegal number that you don't want is 24 or lower. Mine came out to 32. I know mine was good to go because when I had them tented, I asked the guy to go dark as possible but keep it legal. So this is your warning. WSP just started this new revenue collection and they’re using this new technology to detect illegal tinted windows. If its not novelty helmets, then it's this now, boy these guys really love me...

Yep - another revenue stream. Same thing went through VA a couple years back and several of the State garrisons balked at enforcing it -- to damn hard to eyeball it. But there is always some young buck that wants to be known as "Mr. Enforcement" or "Mister F'n Asshole" to the rest of us....

Not allowed in Texas since most cop cars also have dark tinted windows. One cop tried to give a citation on a car he pulled over for dark windows and he had some on his as well. the driver video taped the cop's car and him writing the driver the citation, took it to court and won. Cop got two week suspension. I have illegal tints on mine and (20% all around) and the cops dont mess with you unless you were speeding. God Bless Texas!!! LOL!!

I've been watching some of the videos on youtube about the WSP, and I'm not impressed. Bunch of pricks from what I've seen.

I was stationed there in Tacoma from 02'-10' and without a doubt, the WSP were the biggest a-holes I've ever run across. With the line of work my law enforcement brothers and sisters do, I hate to stereotype these guys, but I can't find a single redeeming quality with the Staties.

I had Limo (shame on me) tint on my truck and car the entire time I was stationed there. I had a buddy of mine who owned a tint shop in Olympia where I lived do it for me. He also tinted the governor's fleet as well as the "unmarked" cruiser fleet for the WSP. When I inquired about getting stopped, he told me at the time that the WSP didn't even own light meters to test the your tint. I guess they've now discovered yet another way to pry a few more dollars from your pocket.

I was never happier than the day I got orders to Abilene, TX! I've been stopped once since I've been here. I didn't realize I had my brights on when I passed a TXHP. As soon as he realized I was military and it was an innocent mistake, he gave me a warning and then we talked HS football on the side of the road for 5 minutes. We thanked EACH OTHER for our service and went on our way. God Bless Texas!
