Where you been in the sandbox?

Did you do any pre-prep to it before you left?

i live in a cold weather climate state and been too busy to maintain my bike so i practically didnt ride it at all last year...pretty much the last time i used it was in july/august of 08 and "Rode hard and put away wet"...no pre-prep and im at ~2600 mi so i plan on changing all the fluids...just want to get it started safely and change the oil first and then primary and trans

Replace all fluids.

Check the brakes

Lube the cables.

Be prepared to take the carb apart and clean it.

Might even need to flush the tank, clean the petcock and replace the battery.

I would definitely drain the tank and float bowl and refill with fresh gas. Then I would go down and pick up a new battery from your HD dealer and grab a battery tender while there.

New plugs also.

I would try to FOG or a few squirts of some motor oil into the cylinders and let it set for a day then crank it over with the sparkplugs removed before you fire it up. After sitting a year the cylinders are probably dry and could cause piston scuffing. Cranking it over with the sparkplugs removed will also allow the oil pressure to come up and pre-lube the engine before starting it as well.

yeah hopefully by tomorrow ill buy some mobil 1 20w50, squirt some in, put it in gear and get the pistons moving...after i fire it up im gonna ride around the block and change the engine oil...how many qts should i buy if i plan on running it without the oil filter to pump out all the oil? kn170c oil filter correct? cant find my owners manual

update: put some oil in the cylinders, put it in gear and got the cyclinders moving and then used the starter, changed the plugs and fired right up with a puffy white cloud of smoke...get the bike turned around and there was a puddle of gas...fuel line hose rotted...got it changed with a regular black hose and rode it around the block...sure miss ridin that bitch

change at least engine oil tomorrow or will wait till i figure out what i need for the trans and primary
